Reviews for Uzbekistan vacation, people of the Silk Road

review 28 Apr 2017

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

It was an amazing adventure from start to finish. Everything was extremely well organised and our guides and drivers were excellent in every respect. It's hard to pick one day or event that stood out from the others, but perhaps I would say that the stay at the yurt camp in the Kyzlkum desert was particularly memorable, and the stay with the family in the Nuratau mountains. We enjoyed all the cities, but especially enjoyed our stay in Khiva at the amazing Orient Star hotel.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Uzbekistan is a country of contrasts. Go with an open mind, and take lots of dollars [ask your guide to change them for you]. Get used to Uzbekistan security, and be prepared to tip the drivers and guides generously.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes, particularly when we stayed in the countryside. Uzbek people really welcome tourists. I'm not sure about reducing environmental impact, but I don't believe our trip was detrimental. It's difficult to support conservation in a country where all aspects are controlled by the government and a lot of illegal hunting clearly takes place.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Possibly the best vacation we have ever had.
