wonderful walking in unspoiled, quiet countryside

don't stay at this property in winter - it is definitely a spring/summer venue

yes - we bought food locally and ate out at the bars in the village

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

we loved the walking, but the property was cold and ill-equipped and dark, after the sun went down.

Hi Katie, Thanks for your review. Apartment Castallico has central heating and log burning stove. The central heating is timed to go on in the morning before guests get up and in the evening when guests arrive back from a day out. If a guest prefers to stay in all day, then on request, we can switch the heating to constant and the unlimited log supply is free of charge.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

Experiencing the real and unspoilt Spain, sampling the local food and hiking in delightful countryside. No tourists and the rustic charm of the accommodation.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

If you want total tranquility, the real Spain with its delicious tapas bars and restaurants and local wine ( all at amazing value!) and totally peaceful accommodation away from it all, but near enough to walk into the village, then this is the place for you. The walks were very enjoyable taking anything from 3 to 6 hours, but do take a good picnic with you and supplement John's excellent guides with a large scale map. This would also give you the opportunity for free walking. We went as a family with 2 of our daughters (28 and 23 years old) and boyfriend of the oldest. We booked all 3 cottages which worked well for us, but always breakfasted together in one and entertained playing card games etc. together in one. If everyone likes walking and eating local food then you will have a great time together.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

We were there for a week and only ate out, as the evening would have been too cold for BBQs and we did not want to cook. The food in the restaurants in the village was all freshly cooked , varied and delicious and amazing value for money! We bought whatever we could in the village, even bringing 2 huge terracotta dishes home that cost 10 Euros! We hardly used our hire car, only on 2 occasions to drive down to the coast.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

A lovely vacation away from it all total peace and tranquility, great food and wine, charming comfortable, rustic accommodation and fantastic walks. Rate it highly!
