Environment

We advise all of our clients to stay to the marked paths. This is to maintain the environment as they pass so that it remains pristine for walkers using the pathways in the future. We also advise that they take all of their rubbish with them until the end of the day and recycle or dispose of it as is appropriate.

As much as is possible on this trek we have tried to ensure that the walking is done from hotel to hotel each day, meaning that there is no need to be transported from or to a hotel each day and reduces the need for transportation journeys and their effect on the environment.

To get between the airport and the walking area we give information about the public transport route necessary to make the journey, booking tickets in advance where possible. This reduces the environmental impact compared to what would be a long transfer in a private car.

Community

Most of the hotels which we use on this trek are small and family run. This enables the establishments to continue into the future so that more people are able to enjoy this section of the Danube in Austria. We also arrange for our clients to eat either at the hotels or at small local restaurants, again keeping the income in the small towns and villages where they stay overnight.

We partner with a local Austrian company in order to run this trek. We are therefore able to use their outstanding local knowledge to arrange excellent walks as well as the accommodation options along the route.

We provide all of our clients with a list of phrases in German which they can use on their vacation. This can not just help in situations where they meet non-English speakers but can be a pleasant way to break the ice when arriving at a hotel or restaurant.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

I really enjoyed arriving in St. Wolfgang and exploring that city as well as walking around Fuschl

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Definitely bring an extra battery pack for your phone if you’re using the ViewRanger app. Also bring a tripod with a remote, you’re going to want those scenic pics! And always have some disposable rain ponchos!

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

I stayed in BnB’s so I suppose that benefited local people as they owned them? I don’t feel the environmental impact was lowered, I still used the bus transport/ trains and ferries.. it wasn’t clear to me how I supported conservation..

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Very well laid out and would recommend.
