Responsible tourism

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your vacation will help support conservation and local people.

By opting for a safari with us safari guests are already helping to contribute towards our conservation work.
We believe that everyone is able to help make a difference towards conserving our environment. When on safari or in the bush, we operate a policy of ‘bring out what you take in’ i.e. we leave no litter or man made products behind. Game drive vehicles do not deviate from existing roads and tracks, however guided foot safaris will access game trails which cannot be reached by vehicle. When on foot, we stay on the trail as deviating can cause erosion and other environmentally harmful impacts.

The Impacts of this Trip

While on safari we recommend that visitors buy locally produced goods and support local artisans. In this way, visitors are able to help sustain the local community, contribute towards conservation and enrich their own lives. During each safari there will be opportunities to purchase goods from local artists, market stalls and restaurants in keeping with the ideals of fair trade. Our guides will advise on a ‘fair price’ if requested, however it is worth noting that a relatively small sum can make a huge difference to peoples lives in Africa and guests are asked to consider this when bargaining with market stallholders.

Our safari staff are all recruited locally and encouraged to develop within the organisation to achieve their goals and where applicable to produce conservation based items for sale (100% of the proceeds going to the originator).

On arrival, we hold an informal chat with guests to explain our conservation work and how they are able to contribute during their safari. A travelers’ code of conduct is also issued with each bespoke safari itinerary.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

In Chobe we watched a pride of lions attack a herd of buffalo. The buffalo eventually repelled the lions, who slinked off with the tails between their legs. They walked away in the direction we were facing, so we drove alongside them for quite some time as they retreated. Eventually they decided to have a snooze under a tree, at which point we were thinking it was time to leave - and just at that moment a leopard stepped out from the bushes and stood immediately in front of our vehicle. Amazing.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Be very organised in your packing - perhaps have complete sets of all you need in 2-3 day bundles. A head torch is of great benefit. Travel light and have some easy slip=-on footwear for getting into the roof tent.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

It certainly benefits conservation, had minimal impact and did a little to support local communities who - for example - sold us firewood and poled our mokoros.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Excellent. Utterly brilliant. If you want QUALITY of experience of game viewing, avoiding the scrum and scramble that happens in some more traditional safaris, then this is definitely for you.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

Being looked after by people that really care about the habitat and the wildlife within, who were happy to part their knowledge so that you got the most out of your trip, learning new skills in tracking wildlife and reading the bush and how the weather and time of the day effects all around you.
Did enjoy the bush senses test !
Seeing more smaller and nocturnal animals, which were just as interesting as the big 5.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Go with an open mind and you will learn new skills that will help get the most from this vacation and future trips or even going to your local woods for a walk.
Don't have any expectation or a check list on what you want to see, there were always surprises on each of the game drives we did, even from animals we have already seen.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes, we had a good insight on the leopard conservation and the monitoring of the whole area from the team involved, which is a national and local study.
This Research did work with the local people from buying provisions to providing jobs.
A proportion of our trip supported the study and we will be supporting the program from the UK in the future.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

We enjoyed our trip and would go on another safari with this company. Attention to detail was superb and made you feel more like family than a customer; the whole experience will last in the memory for a long time.
