Bear watching specialist

Typically trips are expertly guided by a leading specialist with a good knowledge of the area to be visited. Polar Bears, Grizzly Bears and Spirit Bears are the main focus of attention however most trips also incorporate other fauna and flora highlights of the destination as well. Our trips use local guides and experts and contribute to local conservation projects whenever possible.

Responsible tourism

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your vacation will help support conservation and local people.

A direct contribution is made from this safari to the conservation and preservation of polar bears in Churchill, as well as their well-being. Clients are always warned how dangerous polar bears are and they are advised on how far away they must stay, what noises not to make and not to wear perfume and chew gum. We also ensure no food is given to the bears or eaten near them, so they do not start to associate humans with a meal! Wherever possible we use environmentally friendly local accommodation. It is not always possible to find eco-friendly accommodation in some remote destinations; if this is the case then we make every effort to alert the management of the accommodation in question to ways of improving their service with the environment in mind.

Our UK operators reflect our standards abroad in that we aim to minimise our impact on the environment as much in the UK as we would do in any of our destination countries. We attempt to do this through recycling of any office waste including paper, plastic, cans, glass and refuse in partnership with the Borough of Brighton & Hove. We always do our best to use environmentally friendly and locally run accommodation and agents in each destination.

Responsible tourism is the way forward for travel in the 21st century; as we destroy more and more of our natural environment, we slowly begin to realise how much we need it. Due to human-caused climate change it is predicted that the Arctic sea ice which polar bears need to hunt will be gone within the next 50 years and polar bears could be extinct within 100 years. Unfortunately, it is not hard to find similar such examples in relation to both the other bears of the world and wildlife in general. When visiting destinations, we bear this in mind and remember how privileged we are to be able to see the wildlife and nature that you are visiting, and, in a few years, if no action is taken, the fact that it will no longer be there...

The Impacts of this Trip

The purpose of our safaris are to contribute to local populations, communities and projects and we always encourage clients to mingle with the locals, taste the local delicacies and try new experiences. The use of local guides in each destination is encouraged as we do not believe in taking jobs from local populations in order to provide for our needs. We also try to use local suppliers when it comes to provisions, accommodation and transport.

From the moment we arrived in Churchill until we left!
We saw a polar bear being released from the holding facility and flown off back to the wild, mothers and cubs, young bears 'play-boxing, a large male bear falling through the thin ice and the Northern Lights.
All the staff were fantastic, particularly our wonderful free-spirited guide Leah Okin Magowan. It could not have been better!!
