Responsible tourism

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your vacation will help support conservation and local people.

Environment
We offer you the opportunity to get to know Slovakia in small groups. This is better for the environment. Where it is practical, we use public transport, such as buses or trams, to get us to our activities. This minimises the impact on the environment and saves travelers money. This money can then be spent in other local places, such as a traditional restaurant, thus benefitting the local economy even more. For the duration of the trip, our stay will be in the Tatra National Park (TANAP). Their undertaking is to protect the park’s nature, flora and fauna, and by being here, we are helping in this mission. Our local leaders are fully versed in the principles of traveling responsibly in order not to do any damage to the local environment, and these values will all be passed on to our travelers. We respect the mountains and forests, never go off marked trails during snow-shoeing, adhere to the rules of the National Park, and treat all animals, including the huskies during our sledding experience, with a lot of care and consideration.
Community

The Impacts of this Trip

Our company ethos is to organise tours for small groups and individuals so people can experience adventure responsibly. As a local, family-run business, we have built-up fantastic relationships with communities throughout Slovakia, and can provide the opportunity to connect with, and experience, local customs, culture and way-of-life first-hand. During this tour, we will only use local services. We will stay in locally-owned accommodation, which supports small Slovakian businesses. Staff at the hotels we choose will usually be family members, or from the same town, providing income to the local community and a welcome insight into the traditions of Slovakia for our travelers. We eat in traditional restaurants, so our travelers can sample local delicacies. The husky sledding trip supports an age-old winter tradition and allows mushers to continue to work in a trade that’s been in their family for generations. This helps to keep a wonderful part of Slovakian culture alive.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

This vacation is active and full of variety. We tried new activities and loved them all. The Tatras are truly beautiful and the opportunity to experience new
activities with the mountains as a backdrop is pretty special. The horse and carriage ride in the forest was great fun and the the cable car up Lomnicky stit was wonderful. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and made sure we were able to experience the best that Slovakia has to offer. I would thoroughly recommend
this operator to anyone who wants a great vacation with lots of fun and adventure.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Be prepared for changing weather conditions. We had every possible weather type in one week, from rain and blizzard to sunshine . Take layers, good hiking
boots and waterproofs. Above all, be prepared to have fun and lots of laughs.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes, I believe it did. We used local services as far as possible and public transport when feasible. We had to travel by car one day as the railway was blocked by
a fallen tree, but the plan had been for us to go by train We walked when we could and visited local bars, cafes, museums etc. We understand the hotel we
stayed in is family owned and employees were locals.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Fantastic!

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

The beautiful snowfall on the last day - it clothed the trees and mountains in a thick covering of pristine beauty. Magical. The food was also a highlight. Every restaurant we are in was lovely, and served delicious Slovakian food. Every meal was a delight. The friendship we established with our fellow traveler from Germany.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Leave your technology behind, and enjoy life the way it should be lived. And if you are a cat lover, go down near the train station and give an outdoor cat a cuddle (and a snack).

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes. We used local facilities and activities, ate local food at local restaurants, travelled on the electric train service, and tried to fit in with local customs (apart from not speaking Slovak - apart from the basic words, it's difficult!). Also fed the local outdoor cats who live down near the train station and left some cat food with one of the local souvenir sellers was looking after them.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Great. It was an active vacation, but also a peaceful and restful break.
