PlanetOn this Vietnam vacation you’ll travel from Hanoi to Hue on the historic ‘Reunification Express’, Southeast Asia’s most famous rail journey. Traveling by train is a more environmentally sustainable mode of transport than flying or driving in a private car, and it is a more interesting experience too! This fascinating over-night train journey offers a wonderful insight into rural Vietnam as you pass through endless lush rice paddies and tiny villages, plus you’ll have a chance to interact with locals on board the train.
One of the hotels you’ll stay at on this itinerary is the fantastic Six Senses Ninh Van Bay. Part of the prestigious Six Senses group, this eco-friendly resort is committed to conserving its local environment and developing a sustainable environment. The hotel uses energy efficient light bulbs which are controlled by sensors, timers, dimmers and other devices throughout the property to ensure conservation of energy. They have also added solar panels for heating water in the guest villas and for lighting the pathways, saving 5% of all electricity consumed on the property. The hotel strives to limit the use of plastic bottles and instead offers guests safe and hygienic water, from an on-site reverse osmosis plant, in reusable glass bottles - this saves around 10,000 plastic bottles per month from polluting the landfill and being abandoned in other areas! The hotel even features an information center called ‘Earth Lab’ where guests can learn about their sustainability projects and initiatives and guests have the opportunity to join their Sustainability Team for daily Earth Lab tours where they’ll visit their projects such as the mushroom hut, organic garden, chicken farm, alembic distilling, water treatment and solar hot water system. The hotel is also committed to a coral restoration initiative and other wildlife conservation projects.
PeopleOn this vacation you’ll discover the main tourist sites and off-the-beaten-track places with our friendly local guides. Wayfairer always employ local guides as this provides economic benefits directly to local people, and they’ll give you an excellent insight into Vietnam’s culture and history, as well as its ancient traditions and main religions. We believe that discovering Vietnam with local guides offers a more interesting and authentic travel experience.
On this vacation we feature hotels and resorts that are committed to supporting their local communities. As mentioned in the section above you’ll stay at Six Senses Ninh Van Bay, an eco-friendly hotel which is committed to building and maintaining positive relationships with its local communities. The hotel has a strong relationship with schools in Luong Son and Ninh Van areas and they have assisted in a number of projects to help develop the schools. The resort has improved the schools’ drinking water systems and provided computers so that the teachers and students have a more effective way of teaching and learning.
You’ll also stay at Victoria Hoi An. This hotel also has an initiative of training and hiring locally, and embraces opportunities for staff and guests to volunteer in the local area. Victoria Hoi An also regularly sponsors local community projects.
