1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

The itinerary planned by our operator worked out beautifully for my family of 8. A couple of the guides, especially Johnnie in Beijing and Susan in chengdu engaged with the children and helped make our time in those cities very
enjoyable. we loved that logistics were taken care of by our guides n drivers. The children loved the ice skating, the time at the Great Wall, learning to cook their own dishes, spending Christmas day at the panda research center, biking in town in the countryside.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Ski pants are not needed in Beijing. More warning taking the rafts on Li river. It may have been better to take the public ferry even though it took 6 hours. We could have been inside and not so cold and miserable on the raft. We had to be on the bus for the extra 4 hours to get to Yangshao.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Gave work to guides and drivers. Our small group was able to use smaller vehicles for transportation.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Excellent planned itinerary. I appreciated the time and patience as we worked out the details of the trip. She is very responsive and an excellent communicator. My goal was for my family to enjoy the 10 days we had together and that the grandchildren would have a wonderful time. The trip met all my expectations.

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

China really battles with environmental problems and sometimes the small steps that we are able to take can seem a little insignificant. However we are firm believers in 'every little helps' and we try to give our travelers as much advice as we can in order to ensure that our tours are run in as environmentally fashion as is possible.
One of the main issues in China is the use of endangered species not only for food but also in the making of Chinese medicine. We ask our guides to be aware of this and to explain some of the issues to our guests. On a practical level the guides will ask guests to avoid restaurants that condone the selling of endangered species.
Where possible we suggest low carbon forms of transport in China, in particular the use of long distance trains rather than flights. Whilst a flight is sometimes necessary, trains can often be an enjoyable, responsible (and economical!) alternative.

Whilst in China our guides are expected to provide travelers with a detailed insight into the way of life in China. This is not only of interest to adults but we also find that children are fascinated and we often try to arrange a visit to a school or village to show our clients the kind of lifestyle enjoyed by children in China.
Our guides are always Chinese and from the local area. This not only ensures that they know the out of the way places that will be of interest to travelers (great local restaurants, smaller hidden temples etc) but also ensures that tourist money is kept 'close to home'.
Similarly, we try wherever possible to use small family run hotels where the welcome is warm and in which employees are generally sourced from nearby towns and villages.
All of our tours in China are run in conjunction with a local partner which is owned and run by local people.
