Carbon reduction

Your vacation will help support local people and conservation. We must also reduce CO2. Learn about the CO2 emissions of this vacation and how to reduce them.

Environment

This tour travels by train, boat and minibus. By sharing this widely-available transport we are able to reduce our impact on the local environment and reduce emissions while maximizing our contact with local people.

This itinerary introduces us to Vietnam, its people and diverse natural beauty. We visit the famous Halong Bay in a traditional junk boat to explore the waters and limestone caves. We remind travelers not to take any litter onto the boat which might find its way into the water and cause pollution.

In Hoi An travelers are encouraged to purchase the ancient town ticket which allows entrance into the five most popular and ancient sites. The ticket fee goes back into the preservation of these sites as well as restoration.

Travelers can explore the immediate area either by bike or foot, further limiting our carbon footprint and impact on the environment. For example in Hoi An there are various bike rental companies and you can take the day to cycle the old town or down to the beach. We aim to use accommodation in central locations meaning you can walk to restaurants and sites. On foot is the best way to experience a city or town and our tour leaders take you on a walking orientation tour of each location we visit.

Community

We encourage travelers to learn about the local culture during this trip. Our tour leader will brief travelers on local etiquette and support and assist with any questions travelers have regarding Vietnamese customs, particularly when we visit temples and other significant sites. With a combination of outdoors activities, a homestay in the Mekong Delta and stops at UNESCO listed old towns, this tour aims to bring travelers into contact with Vietnamese history, culture and contemporary lifestyles and attitudes.

We select local accommodation throughout this tour in order to support the local community with cash going directly into the local economy as a result of our stay. The homestay in the Mekong Delta not only supports local families but also allows travelers to experience a home and day to day customs in this region.

Our tour leaders will always recommend local restaurants, cafes and bars throughout the tour, helping travelers experience authentic local cuisine. Vietnam is home to some of the best street food in the world. We stop at Dong Ba market in Hue where we encourage travelers to sample the food on offer which in turn supports local vendors.

This tour uses a mixture of small hotels and guesthouses, aiming where possible to use locally owned accommodation to support family businesses. In the Mekong Delta we stay in homestays, which provides valuable economic support to local villagers. It it also great opportunity for travelers to gain insight into local life of those that inhabit these waterways, many of whom are farmers. During our stay in the Mekong Delta we will also visit various markets and villages where travelers can purchase local crafts or fresh produce.
