Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet

We operate all of our tours in Peru in conjunction with a local partner that shares our environmental values and support these within Peru. They admire nature and cultural heritage, contributing actively and voluntarily towards economic, social and environmental improvement, with the utmost respect for different cultures and traditions. It is important to us to operate in a responsible manner and we are committed to preserving the areas into which we travel.

In general in Peru we use small locally owned and family run accommodation which has been built (and furnished) using local materials, and we try to minimise unnessary extra flights when we could take a bus.

By visiting places such as Coporaque village, travelers will witness the more traditional rural way of life and learn about the importance of working on the land.

Our UK office is run as environmentally as possible. The majority of our staff either walk or cycle to work and we operate a primarily paper free environment. We do not produce brochures (which often leads to a lot of waste) but market our tours exclusively on the internet.

People

Our tours in Peru are always escorted by an English speaking driver or guide who are central to the experience provided to travelers. Local guides offer a great way to find out more about local ways, speak the language, understand the day-to-day life going on and are often the gateway to a better experience of Peru. We ask the drivers to ensure that they stop frequently in local villages and markets so that our guests are able to stop off and explore.

As our trips are tailor made for families, we travel in small groups which minimises the impact we make traveling through lesser visited places. The drivers and guides will assist with the purchasing of (delicious) local fruits and will often take travelers to small establishments. This all helps to provide much needed income for small rural communities, making sure our money reaches as many people as possible, whilst at the same time providing a wonderful experience for travelers.

Most programmes will also involve a visit to a school or village which provides our guests (and particularly the children) with a fascinating insight in to the local way of life and culture.

Our drivers are also able to provide advice on how to behave appropriately when traveling in Peru, for example how to behave when going into someone's house and if it is really okay to take that photo (sometimes a local person will give reluctant permission just to be polite).

We value the team of people who work with us, encourage them in ideas for new initiatives and we encourage all positive feedback.
