PlanetKomodo Resort has been carefully constructed to blend into it's natural surroundings , the traditional style bungalows were built using techniques passed down through generations with teak wood that either has been recycled or comes from controlled plantation. There's a clear emphasis of conservation and sustainability throughout the operation, whilst the house reef offers spectacular coral reefs you are only allowed to snorkel, no diving from the shore in order to protect the very local environment. Refill water containers are highly encouraged during your stay with a number of refill stations spread throughout the resort to limit plastic use. Diving is managed in small groups with clear briefings to encourage responsible encounters with marine life. Careful guidelines are set out particularly for Manta Rays and Komodo Dragons which are prolific throughout the region and are sensitive to human interaction. Komodo Resort also work closely with local communities and Non Government Officials both on a financial and educational level to ensure the protection of the local environment.
PeopleLocal people have been heavily involved in Komodo Resort, firstly the build and construction was entirely overseen by people from the local community. The vast majority of the current staff including dive guides, house keeping and reception staff are made up of local people to the nearby town Labuan Bajo. The management ensures staff are fairly paid with good working conditions and job security. Part of your vacation cost goes to marine park fees and land park fees where funds are allocated to protect the komodo dragons, employ local rangers to ensure destructive fishing practices aren't taking place and fix buoys so dive boats don't anchor on the reef. Komodo Resort also have a number of initiatives with local communities throughout the region to ensure both tourism companies and local people work together to protect and sustain the marine park for future generations. This is both on a financial and educational basis.
