Responsible tourism

Responsible tourism: Tanzania safari vacation, small group

The very ethos of our style of travel is responsible; small groups on fully escorted tours, experiencing the very best of a region, a culture and a landscape, with a friendly local hand guiding the way. Our itineraries are designed to give our travelers real life experiences without compromising the part of the world we are exploring; to travel responsibly is at the heart of our commitment as a global tour operator.

This fantastic Tanzanian safari visits some of the world’s most famous game reserves, the Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti National Park, in addition to the stunning Lake Manyara. It’s an itinerary designed around the concept of low impact and even positive impact tourism, whereby our groups leave only a legacy that is beneficial to the region. We do this by trying to ensure the financial benefits from our visit find their way in to local economies rather than into the pockets of big business. We use smaller, local suppliers for everything from our accommodation to purchasing produce for meals as we go and we encourage our travelers to buy souvenirs from local artisans (such as the at the small market in Tengeru), supporting small business. Our journey also helps provide employment opportunities in Tanzania, from the staff at the hotels, lodges and restaurants we use, to our own tour leaders and drivers.

Your group leader and driver will both be recruited from the regions through which we are traveling and be professionally trained to our own high standards. Their inside knowledge of Tanzania will prove invaluable, from your drivers’ knowledge of the roads to your leader’s local insights from wildlife facts, to the best places to purchase authentic local handicrafts to the best places to dine on favourite regional specialities!

The accommodation used on this trip will be of a comfortable standard throughout, consisting of small, hotels and lodges, reflective of the region and locally owned rather than ‘chain’ properties, again putting the financial benefits of our journey immediately back into the local economy. Our lodge in the Serengeti is designed to blend in with the landscape and overlooks several waterholes giving great spotting opportunities from the lodge itself.

The Park Fees generated by our visits to the national parks contribute directly to the conservation of these valuable habitats, but there isn’t where we expect our contribution to end. Maintaining this fragile environment is the responsibility of every traveler to the region, and as such we encourage all our groups to journey considerately and with care. Your group leader will also be on hand to assist with the appropriate disposal of rubbish en route, recycling wherever possible and we encourage all our travelers to use refillable water bottles alongside purification products rather than contributing to the rapidly escalating problem caused by the copious number of plastic bottles discarded globally on a daily basis.

Finally, as a company we are very aware of the negative effect carbon emissions have on our environment and as such operate a carbon neutral policy; offsetting the ground emissions of all our passengers on all our trips. On this particular African adventure through Tanzania that equates to 355kgs of carbon offset per passenger, per departure.
