Small group adventure vacation

Whether you are traveling alone or with friends/family its good value, and a great way to meet new people! While itineraries are pre-planned there is plenty of free time to explore at your own pace. This trip will appeal to travelers of all ages who enjoy meeting new people as well as seeing new places.

Responsible tourism

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your vacation will help support conservation and local people.

Environment
Water – On this tour we travel through the Atacama Desert in Chile, the driest desert in the world. Water is in short supply here, and tourism can put pressure on this service which can in turn reduce the supplies available to local people. In order to mitigate this, our tour leaders inform travelers about this local problem and provide tips on how they can reduce their water use and wastage, such as by turning the tap off while brushing their teeth.

All customers are encouraged to act responsibly when staying in hotels in guesthouses, including ensuring all electricity and lights are switched off when not needed, air con is not left on, towels and bedding are not replaced unless necessary and water consumption is kept to a minimum.

Group Size - The maximum group size on this tour is 19 people, meaning we can use smaller accommodation and have minimum impact when visiting busy sights.

This tour visits many sights of natural beauty such as Machu Picchu, Lake Titicaca, Laguna Colorada, Uyuni and San Pedro de Atacama. Travelers are reminded to respect these areas and leave nothing but footprints behind. All litter and plastic is to be taken back from excursions and disposed of properly.
Community

The Impacts of this Trip

Volunteering & Charity – We are a member of the LATA Foundation, a not-for-profit association dedicated to promoting sustainable development, conservation and poverty relief in Latin America, as well as responsible business practices in the tourism industry. Established in 2008, the foundation helps support grass-root projects that genuinely benefit communities throughout the region. Donations from us have directly benefited one of the countries on this tour, by helping LATA with the planting of 20,500 trees in three communities in Peru.

Local Crafts & Culture - On this tour we encourage our travelers to visit local markets in each destination on the itinerary in order to help sustain jobs and cultural diversity by supporting local craft makers and artisans. For example, when we visit Taquile on Lake Titicaca, an island that is well known for its tradition of intricate textiles and clothing knitted by the male locals, we encourage our travelers to buy some of their the high-quality handicrafts to help support this important part of their cultural heritage and livelihood. We also visit several other cultural attractions on this tour, such as Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley of the Incas. The economic support of these local cultural highlights directly benefits the sights’ conservation and promotion.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

There were several which are best encapsulated by amazing scenery, interesting culture and good company. Our guide, Wilson, was very professional and engaged with the group well

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Go for it ??

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Seemed ok for the most part but some of the hotels could be cutting down on plastics and the extremely intrusive and anti-wildlife use of drones was a real negative. However, our guides were very good in the way they tried to challenge this antisocial blight

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

An excellent introduction to three fascinating countries making good use of the time available (apart from the long photo shoot on Salt Flats)

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

Seeing Machu Picchu for the first time from the sun gate on the 1 day Inca trail walking tour. Crossing the salt flats and altiplano in the 4x4 vehicles. Both were incredible! And the guides that we had for both were excellent, providing great commentary.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Really prepare for the cold during the nights on the salt flats in Bolivia. It got down to -15 degrees Celsius. Embrace the adventure! Walking part of the Inca trail was hard, but the reward of seeing it at the end made it all worthwhile. Be
prepared for the altitude - everyone in our group had problems like headaches or feeling sick, i didn't take any medication for that with me, but was able to buy Soroche tables from a local pharmacy and felt better within 15 mins of taking them

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes, definitely! Especially when visiting the islands on lake titicaca

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

A wonderful experience - even better than i had imagined/hoped for!

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

I loved every minute of my tour, but seeing Machu Picchu with your own eyes takes some beating, I have been to 5 of the seven wonders of the world now, and Mach Picchu is the best. Got the Great wall and Petra left to do

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Don't be put off by any negative reviews you read pre-booking, as its impossible to please everyone and remember its an adventure vacation which is the crux of it

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes to all of the above, places like Cusco, Puno etc must benefit massively through tourism, giving people jobs in the travel industry and selling local merchandise and foods to tourists, Tours through Peru, Bolivia and Chile are done in a very environmentally friendly way with minimal impact on the surroundings and landscapes. If Machu Picchu was in America it would be surrounded by high rise hotels and entertainment centers. But in South America the environment is the priority which is the way it should be in my opinoin

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Its a 10 out of 10 from me. I found the whole tour from start to finish completely professionally run and the organisation of it all first class. The tour guides were very knowledgeable and enthusiastic, and never came across as if they were going through the motions and reading from a script. You are never going to please everyone totally, but the emphasis is on 'an adventure vacation' and for me it completely fulfilled my adventure ambition
