Responsible tourism

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your vacation will help support conservation and local people.

Environment
Although the Mongolian environment is vast and sparse it is also one worth protecting. Deep in mineral content, it makes for a serious target by many mining companies looking to make their mark. Our company believes in following responsible tourism values and has done so since our inception. To reduce the amount of waste created on tours, tour leaders also encourage travelers to use refillable water bottles instead of disposable plastic, cotton tote bags, reusable batteries, etc. We also include destination-specific information in our guidebooks, which are provided to each traveler including information particular to the local culture and environment and tips on how to be a responsible traveler.

Low Impact Transportation: Using public transport is the most sustainable way to go – after walking and cycling of course! On this trip you’ll be taking the train across Siberia and Mongolia, traveling as locals do, with low impact in emissions and high impact in culture!

The Impacts of this Trip

You’re not going to find a better way to experience culture than by riding the Trans-Mongolian Railway. This is your chance to interact with the locals, share stories, play charades while trying to communicate, take photos and make new friends. Learn about the local way of life from your local homestay in the Siberian town of Listvyanka. You will be guaranteed to walk away from this trip forever changed!

Don’t forget about one of the highlights of this trip; the World Heritage Sites forever protected by UNESCO via your continued support. Beijing has the famous Great Wall, Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, and Temple of Heaven. There is also the World Natural Heritage Site of Lake Baikal in Siberia, and Moscow’s Kremlin and Red Square.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

The most memorable parts of my vacation were, firstly, Moscow that I absolutely loved and where I would like to spend more time, secondly, the Great Wall of
China and, thirdly, the cultural show in Ulaanbataar. The most exciting part was seeing the snow!

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Nobody notices (or cares) if you wear the same things every day. Take as little luggage as you can. Remember that you have to carry all your luggage around.
Have some washing done in the guesthouse on Lake Baikal. Make sure that your camera works and take a phone just in case it doesn't. We were able to
charge our electronics on the train. Take warm clothes and a jacket that repels water (or snow).

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

It benefited local people, particularly in Mongolia.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Wonderful trip; had fun; did things I never even dreamed of; met interesting people.
