Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
Planet
Tourism has a lot of positive influences on Uganda. It supports the economy, it creates awareness and it helps to protect national parks and its wildlife. Without tourism the gorillas and many other animal species would have been extinct. However; Tourism has negative influences as well. As a tour operator we have the responsibility to limit the negative influences on social/economic aspects, and environmental issues as much as possible. In the National Parks all the guides and trackers are local to the area and have been trained by the reserve management, bettering their communities. A portion of the reserve fees go to their conservation efforts. Guests are told of this campaign and educated about the conservation issues in an attempt to encourage awareness, and action.
The accommodation is focused on responsible travel, 80% of the staff are from the local community and sources products and produce from local suppliers wherever possible.
As a company: We strive to operate as a paperless company as far as possible, and recycle wherever facilities are available. We use toxic-free fair trade products whenever we can.
On the road: Many of the resorts and operators we work with offer our clients free drinking water refills to minimise wastage of plastic bottles through out the trips; and ask clients if they want items laundered before simply washing towels and linens unnecessarily, to conserve water.
People
This tour has been designed to both operate in a way that minimises our impact on the environment that we visit and to maximise the benefit that our clients can have on the host community. We encourage interaction with local communities, however we keep our group sizes small and provide advice during the trip to ensure our impact on the indigenous way of live is minimised. We encourage our clients to have a truly immersive experience as well as support the livelihood of the local community.
When visiting the National Parks our guests will be accompanied by a local guide who is knowledgeable about not only the local culture and history of the area, but also of the flora and fauna around the sanctuary. The guide will ensure that the group understand all the do’s and don’ts while visiting this National Park.
Were possible we have choosen to stay in privately owned boutique accommodation where possible to support the local community.
