Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet

The Puna Desert is a harsh environment and people with heart conditions are not advised to go there. Travelers there will see maybe one or two tourists throughout their trip. It is an untrodden wilderness and visiting it will reduce large numbers of tourists from the more popular sights in Argentina, as well as provide income and benefits of tourism to a less-visited part of Argentina.

We are promoting the natural beauty and ancient heritage of Argentina through visiting the unique rock formations at Natural Reserve Campo de Piedra Pómez and the flamingo gathering site of Laguna Grande RAMSAR site. Visiting such sites helps sustain the natural ecosystems of Argentina and contributes to the local economy, empowering local people to protect these sights.

We attempt to reduce plastic bottle use wherever possible by promoting use of reusable and filtered water bottles. Our partnership with Water-To-Go provides a discount on filtered water bottles to our clients. We do not provide water from plastic bottles to our clients in country but always ensure there is regular access to drinking water on our tours.

People

You will be staying in a community owned guesthouse in Tolar Grande, an extremely remote village. You will also be staying in Antofagasta, where the people have maintained their ancient traditions and culture. The wonderful thing about this kind of interactive tourism is that everyone gains – the families benefit financially and we more than benefit from them in terms of the wonderful welcome and experience they give us. Wherever possible we stay in locally owned accommodation, eat in locally owned establishments and purchase supplies from the local markets.

Responsible travel and sustainable tourism are fundamental ideas that we have been committed to since our conception. It is part of our core sets of beliefs that these words are not simply scattered nonchalantly into our literature and on our website but moreover that they are central to each and every trip. Our adventures are therefore carefully curated celebrating all that is local from the people, to the culture. We believe that a successful trip delivers a unique and authentic journey for our clients, but furthermore benefits the people whose land we have the privilege of encountering.

On Day 3 you will have the chance to take part in a cooking class in order to delve into the food culture of Argentina. The best way to share stories and meet new people is over a plate of great food and a glass of wine in hand. Supporting the local food industry in Argentina not only maintains the cultural identity of Argentina and connects cultures through the most ancient of pastimes, eating!
