Responsible tourism

Responsible tourism: Lhasa small group tour in Tibet

Environment

We, being a responsible tour operator in Lhasa, understand how important the coexistence between Tibet tourism and the protection of its natural environment is and always puts environmental protection at a foremost place, doing its utmost to leave no garbage or any pollution to the scenic sites.

This short and simple trip takes you through the best part of the holy city Lhasa by appreciating its prominent historical sites of Potala Palace, mystical Jakhong Temple, sprawling Sera and Drepung Monastery, which are also the important Buddhism places. Please respect the culture and history of Tibetan Buddhism. On the bus, our English-speaking Tibet tour guide will distribute rubbish bags to each traveler, so they can collect their own trash as they travel in these historical tourist sites and then take it away to the garbage can. We advise our clients to carry their own drinking bottle and provide them with water dispenser.

On the first arriving day, our tour guide will pick up clients from airport or train station, and then take them to the hotel in Lhasa. Our clients will be arranged in 4-star hotel for three nights, such as Gang Gyan Hotel, Jardin Secret Hotel, Tibet Hotel in Lhasa city.

Community

All our tour guides and drivers hired are pure local Tibetans and we provides them with salary, tour allowance, insurance, travel rewards, and opportunities for in-service training and offer necessary help when their family members become sick. Owing to the apparent seasonal change of Tibet travel, so far Tibet Vista has offered 9 months' work to around 40 Tibetan staffs from April to January next year, representing 30 percent higher working months than average in the field.

We have been working to train local Tibetans to work in the field of tourism and helping them to master the professional skills to achieve stable and long-term profits and an improved standards of living. Each year from Nov. to March, we offer much training to all the staffs (such as driver, tour guide, employees of hotels) involved in travel service, including tourism management, service skills, treatment of unexpected injuries, first aid to altitude sickness, etc.

We give every tourist a guide on how to be a responsible traveler, an initiative created by Tibetan Village Project and Chris Jones for the Tibet Ecotourism Project: an ongoing educational initiative through Columbia University, NYC. This initiative lists basic rules and highlights the social responsibility one has to fulfill so as to be a responsible traveler. Before beginning of tourists' journey, the initiative has been sent to their E-mails and the relevant information has also been posted on our website.

On Day 1, after our clients are met by our lovely Tibet tour guide, they will be transferred to their hotel on the car or bus, and our tour guide will introduce our beautiful Lhasa city. Tourist will be shocked by the lovely blue sky and impressive views of Lhasa River, the mother river of Tibet. When met other tourists in the hotel together, our tour guide will discuss this tour deeply, and tell some travel tips in the historical sites. In the following two days, clients need to follow the introduce of our tour guide to visit these sites. Do not touch the Tangka in Potala Palace. Do not walk anticlockwise in Jakhong Temple and Barkhor Street. Do not take photos in Drepung and Sera monasteries without permission. In addition, the monks in Drepung will gather outsides in the shade of the trees and start their debate at 15:00pm, which is a wonderful Tibet cultural subject.

We encourage guests to buy locally, to eat in local restaurants and buy handicrafts that are authentic and locally made. We employ local guides and staff who help make guests aware of any cultural values that may differ from their own. On Barkhor Street, there are many stores which are run by Tibetans, selling different kinds of hand-made souvenirs, such as: Buddhist Thangkas, prayer Flags, prayer wheels and more. When our group are doing the religious circle there with pilgrims and locals, clients can buy some small souvenirs to take back home. Although this package does not include the meals, our experience tour guide will take our clients to find the local featured restaurants for lunch and dinner. Most of restaurants are opened by Tibetans and they can offered Tibetan food and Sichuan cuisine.

About Tibet Entry Permit:
Tibet Entry Permit, also knew as Tibet Travel Permit, is the must-have documents required for the international visitors’ tour Tibet in addition to China Visa. If clients just plan to visit the famous tourist site in Lhasa city, it is OK for them to only apply Tibet Entey Permit. They can send the inquiry to us, and we can help them to apply for it from Tibet Tourism Bureau with 7 to 12 days for the application process.
