Carbon reduction

Your vacation will help support local people and conservation. We must also reduce CO2. Learn about the CO2 emissions of this vacation and how to reduce them.

Environment

Vietnam is home to some astounding natural landscapes and itís important to keep it that way! During this itinerary youíll stay in small-scale, authentic accommodation throughout, all bursting with local character. Not only does this help to reduce the environmental impact, but also gives you a more authentic experience. Weíre especially proud of the accommodation youíll stay in on Palm Island. The bungalows are built using local materials and the resort has signed up to a commitment to protect the local marine life. Theyíve already started to see an improvement and have even been thanked by the local fishermen.

Throughout this itinerary youíll leave your transport behind and discover your surroundings on foot. Hoi An is a UNESCO world heritage site and is the perfect place to discover on a leisurely stroll, so weíll leave you plenty of free time to discover the town under your own steam. In Hanoi youíll discover the winding backstreets on foot and using public transport.

Community

We believe in the concept of 'meaningful travel'. When travel is meaningful both you and the country benefit in some way from your visit. You might have the chance to see something completely unique, or interact with the local community in a way that most travelers wonít. On this trip youíll stay in a homestay on the Mekong Delta. Itís owned and run by a local family who have lived on the Mekong for generations. Youíll learn about their way of life and roll up your sleeves to lend a hand making the evening meal. Itís the perfect way to learn how to cook those delicious delta specialities.

In each destination we support a local project by giving you the option to donate a small amount when you book with us. In Vietnam we are proud to support the Blue Dragon Childrenís Foundation. This is a grassroots Australian charity which has been reaching out to children in crisis throughout Vietnam since 2003. Blue Dragon kids are street kids, children with disabilities, children from very poor families and victims of human trafficking and slavery. Blue Dragon provides them all with schooling, health care, and even rescues children trapped in slavery.

The Haong Bay and Cu Chi tunnels, were both very memorable, the Vespa tour was the most exciting.

The "language" lesson on the first morning was more of a country briefing, we should have paid more attention and asked more questions on culture, economy, geography, politics, history etc.

Yes, we met many Vietnamese people, used trains instead of planes etc.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Excellent, the hotels were all good although the Park View in Saigon was not quite as good or quite as friendly as the others.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

So many highlights! Really enjoyed the Vespa tour after dark in Saigon, the homestay in the Mekong, cooking class at Hoi An, and of course Ha Long/ Bai Tu Long.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Consider the time of year for undertaking the trip, it was extremely hot and humid in late July, which was quite draining at times.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Difficult to assess, it would be good to think that some of the monies spent reached the pockets of local people.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Enjoyed every single day, the travel arrangements were excellent, and there was the right mix between some days which had a full itinerary- and on others plenty of 'down time' to rest! The hotels were all very comfortable, and the staff couldn't do enough, so friendly.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

There were many, I would pick Ninh Binh as a fantastic example of Vietnamese landscape. My kids would probably pick the Vespa adventures tour in Ho Chi
Min City and my wife the Surnise Hotel in Hoi An.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

I would suggest to have an idea of the itinerary and the type of trip and then contact a tour operator with a strong knowledge of the country. Tips are invaluable if traveling for the first time there. I also found extremely useful having a local guide and would definitively recommend that as it also helps to
understand a lot more about the people and the culture.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Our tour operator used a local company and only local people so I guess that to be case.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Fantastic vacation in a fantastic country. Our vacation provider were really good and would recommend them to anyone willing to visit Vietnam. Will definitively
use Responsible Travel in the future.
