1 Reviews of Lapland photography vacation, Fall colours
5 out of 5 stars
Reviewed on 16 Feb 2019 by Keith Jones
1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
Oh that is a difficult one. I guess it was the Reindeer selection ring, where the herders catch their reindeer for market. The melee was amazing and no one was hurt, but a fantastic experience. Then there is the photographing of a moose that was 5 meters away. Being able to enter the Sami Parliament.
2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Take good thermal underwear, whatever quality your clothing it will not be warm enough.
3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
I do believe in responsible tourism and the few gifts I did buy were made by the Sami people and I knew from my guide, where the money went.
4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
I am going to need to find a word other than awesome as I used it so many times. This was the first vacation (other than as a child) where the trip was not arranged by me, I knew I was going to Lapland and had a guide, so everything else was a suprise. I must say that Riitta outdid herself. Absolutely everything was thought of and worked really well. My guide was brilliant and went the extra mile. What started as a photo trip, became the vacation of a lifetime and Lapland has a place in my heart forever.
Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
Planet
This tour will take you to Lemmenjoki National Park, Pyha-Luosto National Park and to Oulanka National Park to see the amazing wilderness. We honor the wilderness nature, follow the rules of the National Parks and not leave any garbage behind us or do not harming the wildlife in any way, when photographing them.On this tour our guests will have a chance to photograph the unique nature and hopefully tell about it in their home countries by their photographs. The most important target are the northern lights, a light show offered by the northern nature.
The small hotels are recycling everything they can. They get their living from tourists wanting to see the pure wilderness nature and we can be 100% sure they do all they can to protect the nature around their destination.
For transportation a van registered for 9 is used. It s economical to have a group of people traveling together.
People
We are using local guidance services in order to take the group to such special places as the Ravadas falls, old villages of eastern Lapland and the top of Pyha hill. We'll visit the Sámi museum Siida to learn about the Arctic nature and eight seasons. They will tell facts and stories about their neighbourhood.A local wildlife photography expert is taking the group to photograph brown bears and other Arctic wildlife. Dinners are provided by local service partners and we either stop for lunch at a restaurant or take away food with us on the tour. We are favoring small, local guesthouses instead of hotels if possible.
This tour is 100% locally driven. Our guide is Croatian but even he earns his living in Finland. We tour in a small group, which together with pre-booking makes it possible to get services and reasonable for local companies to provide them outside the main heavy seasons.
