Responsible tourism

Responsible tourism: Montenegro and Croatia kayaking vacation

Environment

We want our vacations to be high impact in experience but low impact on the environment! Car transfers are provided to starting points for excursions when required, but most of our traveling is done with paddle power!

Lake Skadar is a National Park and a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance. As such, our tour guides will ensure you pay all relevant National Park fees and encourage you to behave in an eco-friendly manner at all times.

The Elefati islands are an archipelago situated close to – and slightly northwest of – Dubrovnik. Two of the three inhabited islands (there are 3 more uninhabited ones), Kolocep and Lopud, are entirely car-free, so perfect for getting away from the bustling Adriatic coastline!

We support the Leave No Trace principles – disposing of waste properly, leaving what you find (unless it’s other people’s rubbish!), respecting wildlife and being considerate of other visitors and the local community.

Community

We've built strong links with local communities at Lake Skadar and the Elafiti islands and support their maintenance of historic traditions, from bee-keeping, fishing and carp-smoking to the making of wine, cheese, olive-oil and flavoured brandies. By visiting home-producers and buying their wares, you will build pride, contribute to the local economy and encourage the development of and investment in sustainable agro-tourism, as well as perhaps helping to grow the kind of zero-impact vacations of which kayaking is just one example!

Additionally, each year, a portion of our profits goes to supporting local tourism and environmental initiatives, from clean-up actions to seminars with local artisans. We employ only dual language, qualified kayaking guides (a real rarity in these parts!) as part of our policy to help grow the popularity of paddlesports in Croatia and Montenegro. Of course it helps that they also bring their unparalleled local knowledge as part of the package, helping our guests to have a more authentic experience and reaching into parts of the former Yugoslavia that would otherwise be pretty tricky to navigate (sometimes literally!).
