Description of Brazil tailor made highlights vacation
This trip can be tailor made throughout the year to suit your requirements
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
PlanetTravel and tourism can both benefit and damage the environment, the economy, the social structure, culture and communities in any country. We know how mass tourism, unrestricted hotel building, poorly devised tours and environmentally destructive activities can bring money flooding in and governments have, in a spirit of short termism, been tempted to accept them. But experience teaches us that in the long term this sort of uncontrolled activity can be detrimental to the country's development.
As a company we love Latin America and strive to protect the rural and urban landscapes which we take you to visit. We work with local operators which have a proven record in training guides to set a good example in their respect for their surroundings and pass on advice and encouragement to visitors on how to preserve the fragile environment in simple ways, such as by refilling a water bottle, disposing of rubbish responsibly, not disturbing local communities or wildlife and not purchasing items made from endangered animals or plants. When selecting accommodation, we give preference to hotels, lodges and cruise vessels which have a verifiable commitment to eco-friendly practices.
Your accommodation in Salvador da Bahía has been selected for you because it embodies what a boutique colonial hotel should be. Its restoration has been immaculately judged, balancing a sense of history with contemporary comfort. The 19th-century building reflects the character of Salvador with its brightly coloured façade and added details which tell the story of the city and you will feel as though you are connected more with the cultural heritage of the area.
In the Amazon you will stay at the Amazon Village Lodge which is eco-friendly in its design: having been built from local products, it blends seamlessly into the natural environment. Apart from this, care is taken over the impact of your visit; your local guides here have been well trained and are experts on the tropical rainforest with a lifelong passion for nature and preserving the environment upon which their livelihood depends. Your guide will teach you how to respect the jungle, ensuring you do not disturb the wildlife and stick to designated paths and trails on all of your excursions.
PeopleWe pride ourselves on delivering our clients truly authentic and unforgettable experiences in Latin America and immersing them in the culture of the places they visit. During your visit to the port town of Cachoeira, you will have the opportunity to experience a traditional candomblé ceremony (a ritualistic, African-influenced religion). An example of the social responsibility displayed by your hotel in Salvador, Casa do Amarelindo, is that they have decided that they will no longer run tours to watch candomblé ceremonies as they feel some of these tours, with large groups of tourists, are intrusive and disrespectful of the religion; they also feel there is the risk that these tours are not
100% genuine and don’t provide an authentic experience. Our local partners, however, have ensured that the ceremony visited on this vacation is a real opportunity for you to learn about local culture.
While this is a short itinerary, this vacation still delves as deep as possible into the different cultures across Brazil. From the cariocas of Rio de Janeiro to the African-influenced traditions of Salvador and the indigenous communities of the Amazon, we strive to provide you with a vacation that will give you an insight into the lives of the people whose homes you are visiting. In the Amazon, you will not only experience the flora and fauna of the jungle, but also spend time with the people of an indigenous village not far from your lodge. The relationship between the lodge and the local people is important to both parties: while the revenue generated from your visit (the hope is that you will purchase hand-made products on your visit) is significant, it is the interaction between people which matters most here. The lodge works hard to create a good relationship between tourists and the local community and by traveling with respect and an open mind, you will be helping them with this effort.
