Responsible tourism

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your vacation will help support conservation and local people.

Having travelled extensively ourselves and witnessed first-hand how tourism can have either positive or negative effects on local communities; we vowed to always endeavour to leave a positive mark on all places we visit and send clients. Our clients’ requirements are of primary importance to us at all times, as we know that our growth and success depend on their continued support.

While we are there: We will visit protected conservation areas, such as the Grampians National Park. We will ensure that our clients are given the correct guidance to minimise impact on the environment and respect the natural wonders of the area.

All these protected areas and reserves use guides who are local to the area and have been trained, bettering their communities. These guides typically communicate all the do’s and don’ts while visiting these protected areas. Typically these areas also ask for a fee to appreciate the protected area. These fees go to conservation and infrastructure efforts directly supporting the reserve.

As a company: We strive to operate as a paperless company as far as possible, and recycle wherever facilities are available. We use toxic-free fair trade products whenever we can.

While traveling: Many of the resorts and operators we work with offer our clients free drinking water refills to minimise wastage of plastic bottles through out their trips. They resorts also ask clients if they want items laundered before simply washing towels and linens unnecessarily, to conserve water. While in remote areas, we carry rubbish with us and ensure we don't disrupt anything in the natural environment.

This trip has a strong focus on exploring natural wonders with the aim of nurturing a love of and respect for the environment and therefore the conservation in the areas visited. All the optional activities such as a bush walk camping are being done with accredited and local staff ensuring that all areas our clients explore will be protected and maintained at all times. The clients will be on a self-drive vacation but we encourage them to use vehicles that will be more economical on fuel for their drive across the Southern part of Australia. This way they will not be affecting the environment with too many gas emissions which will help the environment of Australia.

The Impacts of this Trip

This tour has been designed to both operate in a way that minimises our impact on the environment that we visit and to maximise the benefit that our clients can have on the host community. We endeavour to follow responsible guidelines, as with all trips. Guests will be briefed on responsible tourism at the start of the trip, and encouraged to be mindful of the environment and respectful of local people and culture.

While we are there: We will visit protected conservation areas, such as the Grampians National Park and will ensure that our clients are given the correct guidance to minimise impact on the environment and respect the natural wonders of the area. When taking part in bush walks our clients will always be accompanied by qualified guides from the local area.

In support of local business this Southern Route Trip has been created to include as many local activities as possible. Our clients will visit Bell’s Beach, one of the world’s famous surfind beaches, Visit the Twelve Apostles, the world famous rock stacks, they will enjoy National Parks along the way where they can view beautiful birds and animals of Australia and as well the nature.

Where we stay: As a boutique travel company we recommend unique and authentic travel experiences. We prefer to use local suppliers who recommend accommodation that will add to the uniqueness and sense of adventure of the trip and we therefore encourage our clients to stay in privately owned accommodation where possible to support the local community. We use hotels where the owners source staff, produce, products and other services from within the local community. This gives the local people an opportunity to gain financially from the increase in tourism in the area.

A large part of this trip includes spending quality time in the on the Southern part of Australia. Clients will be able to see the beauty that Australia has to offer not only with scenery but with its history and culture.
While we are there: We encourage our clients to have a truly immersive experience as well as support the livelihood of the local community.
We ensure guests have opportunities to purchase locally produced traditional crafts at the source, ensuring maximum financial benefit to producers and artisans. We travel in small groups to ensure our customers can interact with locals in a meaningful way and to ensure that any impact on local communities is minimised.

Typically with all our tailor-made trips to destinations we enjoy offering new routes and encourage travel to areas that are not on the main tourist trails and further support communities.

All the trips and activities from hot air ballooning to kayaking, diving and camping and bush walking are being done with accredited and local staff and service providers, ensuring that local businesses are supported by our clients travels.

1 Reviews of Southern Australia tour, Melbourne to Adelaide

3 out of 5 stars

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

The best parts of the vacation were walking in the National Parks, such as near Cradle Mountain in Tasmania. We also enjoyed the art galleries and museums
in Melbourne.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Australia is huge so you can spend a lot of time driving, although roads are good they can be slow in hilly districts. Many outdoor activities are free so do not purchase expensive excursions without shopping around and considering alternatives. Eating out and drinking can be expensive and many cafes and restaurants close earlier than in Britain.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Tasmania in particular probably depends on tourism to a considerable extent. National parks and conservation areas depend on tourist entry fees for revenue although in the case of penguins at Phillips Island this seems to have reached ridiculous proportions with grandstands instead of bird hides and hundreds if not thousands of people jostling each other for a view of what are claimed to be nervous birds.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

This trip was part vacation and part visiting our son who is living in Melbourne and who then joined us in Tasmania, we probably would not have chosen to visit
Victoria otherwise. Tasmania was lovely but we were short of time because our son had limited time off work. Consequently this was not the best vacation, this
is not a criticism but an inevitable result of the circumstances of our visit.

Thank you very much for your review. I am glad you did enjoy some of the sites of Tasmania and Australia and got to spend some time with your son.
