As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
PlanetBuildings: Globe Drifters strive to offer unique accommodations for our travelers on all of our trips. On this Southern France Chateau Slowcation, we will stay in one accommodation that will serve as a base for 10 days / 9 nights rather than jumping around from place to place every night. The accommodation is a renovated chateau that dates back to the 16th century. It is a historical building that has passed from family to family throughout the centuries and still maintains its original foundation and architectural features in a charming village setting.
Transport: Uzes is the closest town to the chateau at 4 kilometers away. We have arranged for 1 bus daily to take everyone to and from the village at set times to avoid everyone taking individual taxis back and forth in an effort to reduce the emissions we create. Also, because we are in one place rather than moving around from city to city, it's our small way to reduce our footprint.
PeopleFriends & neighbors: Globe Drifters strongly believe in finding local experiences for our travelers not only to give them a more authentic and educational experience, but also to stimulate the local economy and its citizens. For example, we visit a very off-the-beaten-path farm that has been passed down from generation to generation in one family along with traditions. Also, rather than hiring a private chef to cater all meals, we give our travelers the option of visiting the local farmer's market (voted the cutest in all of France!) where guests can purchase products to make a delicious family-style meal at the chateau together.
Local crafts and culture: Our chateau accommodation is a cultural and historical attraction in and of itself. However, we encourage all of our travelers to visit local markets and shops of artisans for their daily life during the slowcation as well as when purchasing souvenirs to take home as gifts to friends and family. As always, Globe Drifters promote local interaction to get a real idea of what life is like for the people living there. One way we do this on this trip is by holding a petanque lesson and tournament. We invite locals to teach us and play with us as we get to know each other and where they're from.
