Responsible tourism

Responsible tourism: Spicelands of Kerala small group tour

Environment

We are environmentally conscious and try to leave no traces to the travel destination. We put effort into educating our travelers to be aware of their impact on the ecosystems and to act responsibly.

Our correspondence and promotion are carried out via the Internet and email, minimising the amount of paper we use. All hotels on this tour have an environmental responsibility program in place and employ local people. Hotel Cardamom County in Thekkady where our guests will spend 2 nights has its own natural water harvesting pond. Additionally, two more wells have been added to the property through an activity initiated by the resort staff itself. No water is sourced from outside premises.Water to the flush tanks is channelled through gravity water flow which helps avoid the use of an electric motor pump. This helps save almost 3 units of power per day, amounting to 1095 units in a year. They use only energy-efficient bulbs (Compact Fluorescent Lamps) at their properties. They also encourage their patrons to reuse their linen if and when possible to help conserve energy.

Before traveling to India, we give our customers a short briefing about the importance of being responsible. We advise our travelers to take care of nature, control water usage whenever they can, and pick up all the litter that they see.

Excursions and attractions in which captive wildlife is held are not offered, except for properly regulated activities in compliance with the local, national and international law. Any disturbance of natural ecosystem is minimised.

Community

Our tours are designed to show and preserve local culture and traditions. During our Spice lands of Kerala Coach tour we include a visit to Kumili spice market of Thekkady and advise our customers to buy spices from locals with the aim to support local economy. All of the guides, drivers and staff are local people. We also use local transport wherever possible, from trains to taxis and cycle rickshaws.
Respect to the local people, their cultures, the economy and the environment should be the first rule that travelers follow. On trips like Spice lands of Kerala Coach Tour, where dress standards can be conservative (particularly outside of the major cities), we recommend our travelers wear loose, lightweight clothing so not to offend, particularly when visiting religious sites.

In the aim to support the local economy we only eat in local restaurants and buy in local markets.

Our goal is not only to help the local community but also to educate our customers to act in a socially responsible way. We will attempt to give an insight and understanding of the host culture and community to our clients so that they can gain more from their visit. In our tour, we are visiting Fisherman village and get insight into their lives also will visit Kathakali dance studio for a traditional dance performance. Sustainable development, protection and conservation are most important goals of our company. We are doing our best to transfer our knowledge to others so we could together act responsibly in preserving the planet.
