Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
Planet
Turkey is home to a variety of wildlife such as deer, lynxes, bears and much more. Contact with wildlife on this trip to Turkey will be limited, but any wildlife seen on this tour will be from a safe distance and the local guide will instruct guests on how to interact in the safest and most respectful way possible so that animals, birds, and insects will not be harmed in any way.Waste management is a growing problem in many countries and Turkey is not immune to this worldwide epidemic. The Turkish guide will educate the travelers about the problem as well as how the government and locals are trying to lessen its severity. We also encourage travelers to be mindful of how much plastic is used and thrown away. Additionally, we always recommend that our travelers buy larger jugs of water with which to fill their personal water bottles rather than frequently buying small individual plastic bottles in order to reduce the amount of plastic waste created. Similarly, we suggest that you put purchases in your day pack if possible rather than using a plastic bag every time. Every little bit helps!
Despite there being ample water available in Turkey, we still suggest that travelers be conscious of how much water they use and be mindful of the length of their showers and overall water usage. We also ask that travelers be aware of their energy consumption by doing little things that can make a big impact if enough individuals participate, such as turning off unused lights, running the air conditioning only when needed, etc.
Many of the accommodations on this tour are great examples of how natural space can be used without destroying it. For example, one of the hotels we stay at is a cave hotel which is essentially a hotel built into the side of a cliff.
When choosing all of the activities on this trip, we were adamant about choosing suppliers that have the environment and well-being if the wildlife, plant and animal, of the locality in mind. We prefer local suppliers that have the maintenance and continuity of their homeland in mind and we avoid working with anyone that exploits people or animals. Don't worry though, these will not detract from any of the fun and amazing experiences that you will have on this epic adventures!
People
Our local guides and suppliers have been hand-picked for their ties to the community and for the fact that they are local rather than large-scale worldwide chains. We feel that this ensure that our travelers get a more authentic experience as well as contribute to local businesses and economy. We try our best to select activities that encourage cultural exchange and support locals. An example of this is a pottery cooperative in Avanos where our guests can learn about the pottery culture that is so known in Avanos as well as purchase directly from the artisans that make these works of art!
The guides, drivers, and local vendors that we work with in Turkey all receive fair wages and are generously compensated by us at rates well above the market standard and cost of living in Turkey. We work directly and consistently with the guide to make sure that he is properly trained in order to provide the best trip possible for the travelers. We also offer fair incentive programs for each tour.
This trip will be an excellent opportunity to learn about different ways in which people in Turkey live on a daily basis. You will have the chance to meet and have tea with local families to learn about who they are, their every day lives, and their culture. We always encourage positive cultural exchange and try to give our travelers as many chances for this as possible.
