Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
Planet
This nine-day tour visits several important destinations rich in bird species - rare habitats which are highly threatened due to human activities and overpopulation along the Andes and narrow belts of cloud forests from Southern Peru. Our operations are carefully organized to avoid undesirable impact in bird populations, other wildlife, and landscape we will visit. Our guides have professional studies and diplomas, and work permits issued by Peru´s Ministry of Tourism and also certifications to enter several nature preserves. Our drivers are professionals with several years of experience. Guides and drivers have a great understanding of responsible tourism, conservation and environmental awareness.
Birding has shown to be one of the most environmentally friendly activities as it is low impact. In the last 30 yrs, conservationists, local communities and interested tour operators have been working in the region to help protect endangered habitats and apply sound approaches to mitigate the further loss of habitat and species. We invite you to be part of of this while your have a great experience finding birds as you travel Peru.
People
Besides being active participants in citizen science, conservation and birding, our company is committed to support medium to long-term reforestation projects funded by tourism and conservation NGOs, reforestation as an alternative to fight back the threats of climate change and loss of water sources is executed by local Quechua villagers who in the past years have planted thousands of Polylepis trees above 3,500 m of altitude in their communal land and nearby valleys, saving ancient remnants of the endangered Polylepis tree which are critical parts of several micro-watersheds of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, vital for their agricultural subsistence and also untouched Upper Amazonian headwaters of Central Eastern Cusco.Local villagers have understood the benefit of conserving high Andean forests for water, biodiversity, sustainable firewood use, and as a good alternative to extent more sound nature tourism in their territories. Part of the money you are paying on this tour will be donated to a large annual fund to give subsidy to this conservation effort that started 15 years ago where several communities participate reforesting thousands of trees inside and outside their territories.
We work with local guides, drivers and hotels wherever possible and help to put money back into the economy wherever possible.
