Responsible tourism: Western Balkans small group vacation

Environment

Waste and Water:
In all our tours we have encouraged our guides and tour leaders to find ways how to minimise waste. For example in this tour our guide tries to minimise the usage of plastic bottles by refilling everyones bottles daily from a big water container. Many times in our tours we have witnessed how our clients were continually buying plastic bottles and then throwing them away. Since the water was being consumed in the bus we came up with the idea of refilling their water bottles once they were inside the bus so they didn't end up buying more.

Transportation:
In most of our tours we aim at using small minibuses which have adequate seating arrangements and in the same time their emissions are constrained. We try not to use big buses which if used for a small number of clients will damage the environment with their emissions. Most of the time such as in this case we don't use transportation companies to supply us with their buses and minibuses. Instead, we use local drivers who own one or several minibuses ensuring in this way a stable flow of income toward their families.

Community

Friends & Neighbours
This tour extends in 7 countries so we rely on local guides to make this journey a memorable one. Everywhere we work with local guides who live and work in these respective cities so their way of guiding is done in an authentic way.

In some areas we are using local homes to provide lunch for us. For example in Albania we use a small house in the village of Marikaj which now have become an agri-tourist centre. The house is not opened to the public but it can be reserved before hand from the local operator.

Volunteering & Charity
We are currently working with a local NGO which is promoting a very interesting campaign called: You are a Sunflower. They sell T-shirts with a sunflower stamped on it, the proceedings of which, go to provide medical care to hospitalised children. So, we have decided to buy from this organisation several t-shirts and donate them to our clients. The money that is collected will to go buy medical equipment for one of the hospitals in Albania
