1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
Tasting the very interesting wines - I was on a Wine Tour, an seeing how they were still made in the traditional way
2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Be prepared to get some wonderful food and try great wines.
3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Not particularly apart from using a local tour company and guide.
Obviously we visited mostly local wine producers who are still one and run by families but the bigger international investors are starting to make their mark.
4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
As we went specifically for a 'Wine Tour', I think we spent more time in Churches and Monasteries. Although a SIGNIFICANT part of Georgia's History, which I was more than happy to learn about (besides just wine making), there are a quite a lot and the Christian history is much the same for all of them ..........or maybe I missed something?!!? Another note is that the Hotel (Astoria) in Tblisis is quite a long way from the Old Town and any good restaurants. I understand that this keeps the price reasonable and luckily we are reasonably fit and are 'good walkers' so all the walking helped justify having (yet another) Khachapuri and glass of wine!!!
Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
Planet
WasteDuring our tours, we keep an environmental policy to make sure that the environments we visit are not damaged or spoilt in any way. All of our clients are fully briefed on a code of etiquette before the tour and also throughout the duration, with the guiding hand of our guide. Our guides are also trained to uphold this policy. An example of this is our behavior towards waste and ensuring our travelers adopt our green practices such as avoiding bringing materials such as plastic that cause the greater environmental impact. We try to minimise waste as much as possible and are careful to emphasize that clients should not damage or remove pieces from any historical sites they visit.
There is a public recycling center in Georgia, which helps the country to implement modern principles of waste management that include saving resources and getting the economic effect by separating and subsequent recycling of waste. Separation corners offer an opportunity for people to take their sorted waste: glass, aluminum, plastic, paper and dispose it into the proper bin. So, we always encourage our tourists to throw their waste in the right place thereby help the country.
Energy
We encourage our tourists to conserve energy and maintain the use of air conditioners, lights and other electrical equipment to a minimum.
People
Friends & neighborsWe always encourage our tourists to visit local markets, buy souvenirs, local products from local stores and visit local restaurants. That helps to invest money into the local economy and gives the client a taste of the local cuisine.
Local crafts and culture
During our Wine Tour to Georgia, the tourists will visit such local wineries as Khareba and Chateau Mukhrani as well as Tsinandali wine cellars. There they will have an opportunity to learn ancient traditions of Georgian winemaking and try various kinds of locals wines. Those who wish will be able to purchase the wines they liked the most. Thereby we are investing in the development of local enterprises. This, in turn, leads to their sustainability.
During our Wine Tour to Georgia, the travelers will also have interesting master classes on traditional food preparation. During masterclasses, the tourists not only learn the recipes of national food preparation but also get acquainted with its history. By that, we try to promote local culture and customs.
Traveling with respect
We always inform our tourists about local customs and traditions, communication issues and rules of conduct in the churches. Thus, we minimize the risk of misunderstanding with locals and disrespectful behavior in religious places.
We also try to make a good relationship between tourist and locals by organizing lunches or dinners at local’s home. This gives a chance to both tourists and local people to meet each other's cultural differences and have a cultural exchange.
