Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Wildlife is buried within our company roots, it is essential that we preserve the natural habitat and home of all creatures, great and small. Therefore, we contribute a percentage of each safari sold to wildlife conservation all over the world and we are always looking out for new projects to get involved with.

Whenever possible we try to use accommodation that savours every drop of precious water; from using environmentally friendly flushing toilets, saving rain water for washing to using solar power for heating. Accommodation when traveling will vary, but we do try to be as environmentally friendly as possible, by promoting the use of locally eco-lodges where we can. As a result of this we minimise the impact on the local environment at the same time as providing the traveler with a high level of comfort. This is a private safari which means that your impact on the environment and wildlife is kept to a minimum at all times resulting in you also being likely to see more! Please bear in mind that this is not always possible to find eco-friendly accommodation in some remote destinations; if this is the case then we make every effort to alert the management of the accommodation in question to ways of improving their service with the environment in mind.

We aim to reduce waste and our impact on the environment within our destination, and at home in the UK, where our offices are based. We work in partnership with the Borough of Brighton & Hove in an attempt to recycle and reuse as much as possible. Our clients are always advised on the best way to do this when away. We recommend using environmentally friendly shampoos, soaps and toiletries, to avoid leaving any litter (whether it is biodegradable or not).

Where possible we try to always use shared excursions and transfers to minimise the carbon emission from the vehicles used. The purpose of our safaris is to contribute to the local populations, communities and projects. We give our travelers advise on how to interact with the local population, flora and fauna in order to minimise any negative impact. Lamanai Outpost Lodge is situated on the banks of a 28-mile-long spring fed lagoon amid the remnants of a major Maya city. it is surrounded by a variety of habitats; the nearest full-service lodge or hotel is over 70 miles away. these other lodges have to conduct day trips to this area which entails hours in a vehicle driving to and from the lodge/hotel, emitting emissions into the atmosphere. Whereas the Lamanai Outpost Lodge is already situated in this beautiful jungle where you can just step outside of your cabanas doorstep and start your day.

Where possible, we always use local supplier in preference to others, whether this is in the purchase of provisions, accommodation, transport or equipment. Through the employment of our local ground operators, who use local guides and drivers, money is fed directly back into individual families and villages that would otherwise not benefit from tourism, as well as giving more jobs to local people. Great guiding is essential on wildlife adventures and few people know a place better than the locals, we whole-heartedly do not believe in taking jobs from the local populations for our own needs. At Blancaneaux Lodge the produce is truly local, the local gardening staff grow organic fruit and vegetables used at the lodge. Guests can visit the garden and have a tour/learn about the garden and the challenges presented by gardening in the jungle.

The purpose of our safaris is to contribute to local populations, communities and projects. We give our travelers on how to interact with the local population, flora and fauna in order to minimise any negative impact. We make sure tourists have the opportunity to buy local souvenirs and handicrafts, assisting further to contribute to their community, and always give support to local communities and conservation agencies. We advise people not to bargain just for the sake of it and because it is the "thing to do", you should oat what you feel the object is worth to yourself and the vendor, bearing in min local cultures.
