Small group family vacation

This is a 'small group family adventure' - typically you will join several other families and travel in a group of approx. 16 people. The trips are great value and a great way for you and your children to meet new people! While itineraries are pre-planned there is some flexibility and you'll have plenty of time to yourselves. Please check with the operator to confirm the minimum age for this trip

Responsible tourism

Responsible tourism: Galapagos family vacation

In the Galapagos we use locally owned transport, locally owned hotels and local guides. All rubbish is collected and disposed of responsibly. While on the trip we visit the Darwin Research Centre where talks are given about the maintenance and preservation of the Galapogos Islands. Using small boats ensures minimal disruption to the wildlife and ecosystems of the Galápagos. All visitors to the Galápagos Islands must pay a Park Tax which is used to protect this incredible natural paradise.

Responsible code: Being Responsible is at the heart of everything our company does - full details of our code can be found on our website. The local supplier for this trip will promote our responsible travel code throughout your adventure. You will also receive specific information on this trip’s responsibility in your trip notes.

Helping to minimise negative impact: All of our customers are invited to offset their international flight emissions. Contributions go to the Blue Ventures Carbon Offset program, a non-profit organisation which provides solar stoves for subsistence communities in Madagascar, benefiting the people and protecting the environment. We also contribute £2 per person towards offsetting of your in-country travel. We fully offset all emissions from our staff travel and run an energy efficient office.

Giving something back: We have a foundation that collects the funds that you donate to us to support our projects. All our customers are invited to make a £1 per person contribution to the foundation at the time of booking. We will match every contribution that you make with our own £1. You as a customer choose where these funds are used from a shortlist of nominated projects – so it really is YOUR foundation.

Partnerships: As a company we support The Travel Foundation, a UK charity that has been established to promote responsible travel practises throughout the whole of the travel industry. We also work with a number of charity partners who work in the destinations that we visit; including Friends of Conservation and Born Free Foundation. We partner with many small grassroots projects throughout the destinations that we visit - they all share our responsible vision.

Thank you - we had a wonderful time!

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

The most memorable bits will be the birds & the animals of the Galapagos but the Guides were really well informed and made the geology and plant life of these unique islands fascinating too.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

There were 9 children in the party and our 2 very excited children, 8 & 6, and although they loved every minute, the equatorial sun was difficult to escape and we had to really keep on top of their hydration. Some of the other children in the group found the walks on the islands quite tiring and the geology less interesting! Need lots of sun-block, legionnaire hats and clothes to cover up. There was obviously a lot of traveling, on road, by boat and plane so it's a good idea for the kids to have books and things to play & make e.g. cards, drawing stuff, friendship bands etc.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

In Ecuador we were taken to local markets so were helping the local economy and in the Galapagos all attempts were made to minimise our impact but we were not the only ones there and some of the US boats were huge.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

***** We loved the vacation - it was the whole family's favourite to date and was made special because of the other families and the Guides, esp. in the Galapagos where Pedro, the local guide, was intelligent, fun and great with the children. Snorkelling amongst Green Sea Turtles, Eagle Rays and Black & White Tip Sharks just off the coast of some of the most stunning volcanic islands in the world will be hard to top! Many thanks again!

The regulations were welcome , and needed. The local people were very friendly and worth spending money on to benefit their economy - children beautiful.
