Small group family adventure:
This is a small group family adventure - typically you will join several other families and travel in a group of approx. 16 people. The trips are great value and a great way for you and your children to meet new people! While itineraries are pre-planned there is some flexibility and you'll have plenty of time to yourselves.
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
PlanetLast year in November during a ceremony at the World Travel Market (WTM) in London, our partners were awarded full Travelife Certification. Travelife is the leading training, management and certification initiative for tourism companies that are committed to sustainability. Certification, which comes in three rising stages – Engaged, Partner and Certified – is only awarded to tour operators after rigorous systems, policy and procedure checks onsite by Travelife.
Our local partners in Indonesia supports TAP Travelers Against Plastic – a United States based non-profit organization. TAP aims to educate travelers on the importance of using reusable water containers instead of buying and using plastic bottles. We are actively encouraging hotel owners to decrease their carbon footprint and minimize waste by offering water to guests in glass bottles or by offering filtered tap water to their guests rather than offering disposable plastic water bottles.
All vehicles are fitted with a water cooler bottles with a filtration system which provides fresh water for customers without having to buy plastic bottles, customers can top up any time.
Whilst in Belaraghi on day five we stay with a remote village community located in the jungle. There are 21 houses in the village, with a rotation system in place to ensure all families that wish to have the opportunity to host guests, ensuring a fair distribution of tourist income. All the houses have been built using locally sourced materials and the money for our stay goes directly to the village community.
PeopleThe boat we use in Komodo is locally owned; over the past six years we have invested time to assist the family owners to not only improve the customer experience but also ensure their business has a strong commercially footing. Historically they had struggled with the commercial side of their business; providing training and support to improve these skills has benefitted both parties to nurture a long term partnership, ensuring the business continues to be locally owned and managed.
Our local Indonesian partners support the Child Safe Tourism campaign that aims to arms travelers with knowledge and information on simple actions to protect children and young people from abuse in tourism areas. The Child Safe Tourism campaign aims to combat the sexual exploitation of children in travel and tourism, particularly in South East Asia.
In addition we are very committed to equal employment opportunities with a big focus on recruiting more female tour leaders; tour leading in Indonesia in in the past been very male dominated, our local partners are seeking to redress the balance in gender equality.
In addition to the above, we are continually looking for ways to improve and are proud to be ‘Responsible in everything we do’. Education is key and so all staff, Tour leaders and partnering suppliers are trained in responsible and sustainable tourism, the last training taking place in February 2018. At our Head Office, we continually strive towards a sustainable and planet-friendly working environment, including having solar panels installed and a company commitment to reducing our plastic usage. As well as this, we have valuable and longstanding partnerships with UK charities Toilet Twinning and Send a Cow, plus many smaller initiatives and projects around the world. We’re members of UK travel industry bodies Tourism Concern and AITO because we believe it’s important to share our knowledge and experience, as well as learn from other operators.
As a company we support Cool Earth. Protecting rainforest is one of the most effective actions to tackle climate breakdown. Cool Earth work with indigenous communities empowering them to conserve their forest; keeping CO2 locked in.
