Description of Snorkel Raja Ampat and Java tour, Indonesia
This trip can be tailor made throughout the year to suit your requirements
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
PlanetAs part of our efforts to preserve the marine environment we will only work with local suppliers who adopt the same conservation practises that we believe in. The Papua Paradise Resorts have installed buoys which allows boats to anchor without damaging the coral reef. The resort also supports and contributes with the creation of artificial reefs in their respective National Marine Parks.
The use of plastic containers is limited only to bottled water. The resorts are currently installing reusable 19l bottle of drinking water in the guest rooms and in common areas.
Part of your vacation cost is paid as a conservation and marine park fees which contributes to the protection of local wildlife, we'll also provide in depth briefings and enforce principles on how to view wildlife above and below the surface in order that we can reduce the impact of our visit as much as possible.
In terms of consumption we aim to limit the amount of plastic and waste products used whilst on tour - refilling bottled water is highly encouraged, we make a local donation of £15 per original bottle returned at the end of each tour (i.e tour members have only used one bottle for the entire trip). We also encourage tour members to limit their usage of shampoos, laundry and cosmetic/cleaning products during the tour.
We aim to:
- Achieve zero litter, and when appropriate remove local litter
- Achieve zero damage and impact to local flora and fauna and reef
- Encourage understanding of the local environment and its fragilities
- Encourage the eating of local foods therefore preserving traditional farming practice
- Encourage the use of biodegradable products especially washing products.
- Ensure waste is minimized and recycled whenever possible
- Minimise the use of water and especially the use of disposable plastic bottles
Our commitment to our environmental policy extends to our working environment and our offices are almost completely paper free, we recycle whatever we can.
PeopleAll of our local partners have established mutually strong relationships with the local communities, complying with all local rules and regulations such as a minimum wage requirement and fair trade rules. Our local partners also only employ local guides and drivers thereby keeping all monies paid to staff in the local community.
Our chosen resorts are actively supporting the local communities- by employing local staff and actively improvng the healthcare, education systems and skills of the people of the islands. These initiatives are paid for with a portion of the profits from the resorts.
We also encourage tour members to 'buy responsibly' at local markets and Warungs (family owned shops). Traveling in small groups enables us to limit our impact in more remote and culturally sensitive regions throughout the tour. Transfers and connections are also managed by small local operators ensuring an even distribution of funds are directly benefits local communities.
We visit local communities while on the tour to help guests better understand local culture. We also encourage guests to support these local communities by purchasing crafts produced by the artisans amongst them.
We eat at locally run restaurants in order to spread the "foreign" investment beyond the reaches of resorts only. We encourage guests to eat local dishes which are made from fresh locally sourced food rather than European food needing to be imported.
