Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet

Traveling by train is one of the most environmentally-friendly ways of traveling. Poland is perfect for such journeys as the rail network spreads all over the country. Rail transport is still in a very good condition here. Most of the locomotives are powered by electricity, only few diesels and steam engines have remained. For our journey we choose electric trains for the long distance trips and some steam engine as a nice historical attraction. We can tailor the trip according to your requirements on the carbon footprint reduction.

The sightseeing tours we offer are based around public transport. In big cities such as Warsaw, Krakow, Poznan there are trams available. In Gdansk we also use water trams to communicate with Sopot or Hel - our leisure points.

We try and reduce waste as much as we can. It is essential for the nature-saving, that most of the tickets for each segment of the journey you can purchase on-line as an e-ticket. There is no need to print anything off. However some local historical journeys like narrow-gauge or local steam engine trains might require a paper ticket. If possible we will organize them printed on one coupon.

To reduce plastic, we encourage our tourists to take water-refill containers.

People

Traveling by train allows you to play a significant role in supporting local economies in that we can access areas away from the main tourist sites and access the 'real' country. It also allows you frequent opportunities to come into contact with and talk to the locals. We are highly aware of the potential impact of mass tourism on local communities, which is why we always aim to encourage sustainable travel, whilst promoting travel as a means of building cultural understanding. Even though there are some mass-tourism attractions on our itinerary, they are in the minority, among those places which might be considered off the beaten path.

In order to put more benefit to local communities, our accommodation and food suppliers are always local (hostels, family-run pensions). According to meals, we always reccomend those who serve local meals based on fresh locally cropped ingridients.

In our itineraries we include rare narrow-gauge rail rides which run on local short routes only. Not many of them preserved in Europe, and most of them operate in Poland. That makes our offer even more locally related, and authentic. Even in big cities, such as Poznan, we can provide a narrow-gauge rail ride!

We particularly encourage solo explorers and small groups of independent travelers to try our trips, ensuring that their cultural experience isn't marred by the dynamics that larger organised group tours can lend themselves to. This also helps to discourage waves of mass tourism in increasingly popular travel destinations.

As rail tours are based on common-shared transportation we encourage our customers to travel with an open, respectful attitude towards other travelers and local residents. We provide basic language essentials in each of our travel packs to help foster cultural immersion, and encourage getting off the beaten track to gain a truly authentic experience of each city that you visit.
