Swedish Lapland luxury winter vacation at the Loggers Lodge

Carbon reduction

Your vacation will help support local people and conservation. We must also reduce CO2. Learn about the CO2 emissions of this vacation and how to reduce them.

Environment

The cabin is surrounded by perfect wilderness deep in the Boreal Forest. The host and owner is dedicated to keeping it that way. Swedish Lapland is blessed with abundant wildlife which guests can witness during their stay.

The cabinís hosts do everything they can to protect local wildlife and encourage guests to do the same. With less than five people on site at the cabin location at any time, wildlife can positively flourish.

The nearest neighbour is five kilometers away. The small collection of timber buildings have been around since the mid-20th Century providing shelter for loggers working on the nearby river. The current owner has lovingly restored the buildings by hand using local materials as sustainably as possible. The buildings havenít been extended and their footprint remains much the same as it always has done. The story of the loggers is very much part of the renovation and remains an underlying theme of any stay. The cultural and geological story of logging and the workers provides the backdrop.

Transport and food miles are kept to an absolute minimum. The private chef works tirelessly to create menus inspired by the local landscapes. The Swedish Lapland larder features in every meal. Ingredients come from local hunters, producers and farmers. Where possible non-motorised transportation is used - from the snow shoe hikes to the dog-sledding excursions.

Local guides are used for the small-scale excursions and ensure they do not leave a footprint from their activity in the pristine wilderness.

Waste is kept to a minimum and en eco-friendly toilet offers comfort and sustainability.

Community

Although the closest neighbours are 5km away, the owner of the lodge has made great efforts to ensure connections and networks are maintained to help support the local economy. The owner has been running activities in the area for many years and has already achieved a great reputation and is well known locally.

His guides are from the local area and he is keen to support them and to create high quality experiences for his guests at the lodge. Equally the host sources food from local providers and sells local handicrafts inside the cabin, proceeds of which go to the creators.

The lodge offers excursions to local Sami reindeer herders which tell the cultural story of the Sami heritage in the local area. The host ensures that the excursions are respectful towards the Sami culture whilst giving the families a reliable income source from tourism and a fair deal to boot.
