Description of Empires of Peru tailor made tour
This trip can be tailor made throughout the year to suit your requirements
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
PlanetWe understand that travel and tourism can both benefit and harm the environment, the economy, the social structure, culture and communities in any country. As a company we love Latin America and strive to protect the rural and urban landscapes which we take you to visit. We work with local operators which have a proven record in training guides to set a good example in their respect for their surroundings and pass on advice and encouragement to visitors on how to preserve the fragile environment in simple ways, such as by refilling a water bottle, disposing of rubbish responsibly, not disturbing local communities or wildlife and not purchasing items made from endangered animals or plants.
On this tour we use a mix of public and private services, in order to reduce the impact it has on the environment. From Chiclayo you will travel for four hours by public couch along the coastal Pan-American highway to Trujillo for example. You will also hike through cloudforest to the base of the lofty Gocta waterfalls.
When selecting accommodation, we give preference to hotels and lodges which have a verifiable commitment to eco-friendly practices. Certain accommodation we use during this vacation, including Gocta Andes Lodge, are associated with responsible tourism organisations. Furthermore, we aim to use hotels and lodges that reflect the environment they are set in. Hotel La Xalca in Chachapoyas for example has been constructed to blend with the Spanish colonial style of the streets around the main plaza, with whitewashed walls, beamed ceilings, wooden balconies and a central courtyard.
There is probably no country in the world with such a sheer richness and variety in history of empire as Peru. During this good-value vacation you visit several of Peru’s archaeological sites - including Machu Picchu of the Incas, the Kuelap temple of the Chachapoyans, and the Moche temples. As they are such an important part of the country’s cultural heritage, we understand the importance of preserving these fragile ruins like no other. We appreciate that it is vital that the impact of every visitor is reduced as much as possible. We ensure that our guides are well-trained and not only teach guests about the history of the sites they are visiting, but also educate them on how they can minimise the impact of their visit: simple actions such as not touching the ruins and making sure you dispose of your waste correctly will always be suggested by our guides. At all of the sites you visit during your vacation you will be accompanied by a responsible guide trained in these practices.
PeopleWe pride ourselves on delivering our clients truly authentic and unforgettable experiences in Latin America which connect travelers with the people whose country they visit. On this vacation you will have the opportunity to engage with the local culture by visiting the more local and artisan markets of Cusco and the handicraft shops of Trujillo. Our guides will point out local markets, shops, bars and restaurants where you have the opportunity to purchase locally produced food and handicrafts – in that way supporting the local economy and promoting the country’s cultural diversity.
Furthermore, you will have the opportunity to learn more about the cultural and historical significance of the different empires. To put the upcoming visits to the archaeological sites into context, the tour starts with a private guided visit to the famous Largo Museum in Lima, which shows exactly how Peruvian culture developed over the centuries. The visits to the archaeological sites are all accompanied by our local partners, some of whom we have worked with for over 25 years. They share their expert knowledge on the sites and towns you visit.
