Travel guides

Bolivia encompasses two of the South America’s biggest draws: the Andes and the Amazon. The highlands are the brutal crown, capped with blinding salt,...
I am a grown man, and have travelled all over Africa. But the first time I saw a tiger in the wilds of India, I cried.

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

We realise that travel and tourism can benefit as well as harm the environment, the economy and the social and cultural structures of communities. The concept of sustainable tourism - the travel trade’s principles of using tourism to benefit local communities, conserve natural resources, and bolster the survival of cultural heritage – lies close to our heart. Our love and passion for Latin America encourages us to do everything in our power to protect the destinations we take you to. As members of AITO, we are committed to AITO’s Sustainable Tourism Guidelines, which means that we ensure that environmental and cultural demands are kept as low as possible.

We’ve developed strong relationships with local suppliers who all share our vision and agree to uphold a commitment to the safekeeping of the environment and local communities. We will always encourage you to keep a few basic things in mind, including refilling your water bottle, disposing of rubbish in a responsible way and switching off the lights and air-conditioning in your hotel room when you’re leaving your room. Furthermore, we’ve partnered up with Water to Go in hope of reducing plastic waste by offering clients 50% discount on filtered water bottles.

Furthermore, we aim to offer accommodation that reflects the environment which they are set in. In Uyuni for example you will stay at Luna Salada. The hotel overlooks the surreal salt flats and is built entirely of salt blocks in order to blend in with the natural environment. Additionally, you will stay in a few traditional colonial properties, including La Casona in La Paz and Parador Santa Maria La Real in Sucre. And near Potosí you will stay at Museo Cayara, a rural hacienda which is also a dairy farm and museum housed in buildings which can trace their history back to 1557.

We pride ourselves on delivering our clients truly authentic and unforgettable experiences in Latin America which connect travelers with the people whose country they visit. During this vacation you will have plenty of opportunities to learn more about the local cultures and history during excursions and guided tours. You will for example follow in Che Guevara’s footsteps on a route through the remote mountains of eastern Bolivia, and visit the village of La Higuera where the rebel leader was killed. Furthermore, you will have the opportunity to visit the indigenous communities and Inca ruins at Lake Titicaca during this trip.
In addition, the local guides are on hand to provide advice on the best way to communicate with the local community, what and what not to buy, as well as acting in a respectful way while taking photographs. Furthermore, we as a company promote the use of local establishments including restaurants, bars and shops and are always happy to recommend a few tried-and-tested options.
There are also a few optional excursions to choose from which offer you with the opportunity to learn more about the local communities. Should you be in Sucre on a Sunday for example you will be offered an optional excursion to the indigenous market at Tarabuco, where the local costume includes a headdress based on the Spanish colonialists’ helmets. Their russet and gold weavings are celebrated worldwide for their intricate embroidery.
