Description of Panama city to Colon, Panama vacation
This trip can be tailor made throughout the year to suit your requirements
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
PlanetWe realise that travel and tourism can benefit as well as harm the environment, the economy and the social and cultural structures of communities. The concept of sustainable tourism - the travel trade’s principles of using tourism to benefit local communities, conserve natural resources, and bolster the survival of cultural heritage – lies close to our heart. Our love and passion for Latin America encourages us to do everything in our power to protect the destinations we take you to. As members of AITO, we are committed to AITO’s Sustainable Tourism Guidelines, which means that we ensure that environmental and cultural demands are kept as low as possible.
We carefully select our local partners, some we’ve worked with for over 25 years. They have a proven record in training guides to set a good example in their respect for the surroundings and the local communities. We will always encourage you to keep a few basic things in mind, including refilling your water bottle, disposing of rubbish in a responsible way and by staying on designated trails. Furthermore, we’ve partnered up with Water to Go in hope to reduce plastic waste by offering clients 50% discount on filtered water bottles.
As a company we support the LATA Foundation, who runs social and environmental projects throughout the continent. In Panama LATA supports the Azuero Earth Project which focuses on environmental education, reforestation, habitat restoration and sustainable land use in the Azuero Peninsula. The project works at the grassroots level with the local community, organising educational initiatives with schools, such as field trips, beach clean ups and tree planting. The project was awarded the national environmental prize by the Panamanian Ministry of Environment for their commitment to the environment in 2017.
During this cruise-vacation you will have the opportunity to explore several bio-diverse areas, including the Darien Province and Gatún Lake. The jungle on the banks of the Panama Canal are protected and developed for eco-tourism. You will explore the lake during a guided kayaking tour where you can spot exotic birds, monkeys, sloths, iguanas and crocodiles. It’s considered one of the world’s premier locations for viewing monkeys and other animals in the wild. Moreover, in Panama City you will enjoy a visit the Biodiversity Museum where eight galleries tell the story of human development on the Panamanian isthmus and its impact on the area’s biodiversity.
PeopleWe pride ourselves on delivering our clients truly authentic and unforgettable experiences in Latin America which connect travelers with the people whose country they visit. In the Darien Jungle for example you will visit a community of Embera Indians. Not only has this indigenous community managed to maintain their identity and traditional crafts over the years – they excel at basket work and wood carvings – but have also adopted a sustainable economy to conserve the delicate balance in the forest. The Embera are proud of their long-established mythology, and practice natural medicine using forest products they harvest themselves.
Moreover, you will have the unique opportunity to learn more about the Spanish colonial times during guided tours of the UNESCO World Heritage site Casco Viejo in Panama City, at Fort San Lorenzo and in Portobelo. In addition, the local guides are on hand to provide advice on the best way to communicate with the local community, what and what not to buy, as well as explaining the importance of giving gifts responsibly, and acting in a respectful way while taking photographs.
Furthermore, as a company we promote the use of local establishments including restaurants, bars and shops and are always happy to recommend a few tried-and-tested options.
