Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet

The Salkantay trek is second most popular hike To Machu Picchu after the Inca Trail, this means a lot of people are going to hike this trail every day. To avoid any negative impact in our tours we always:

Avoid direct contact with the wildlife, we do this by staying always on the trail, not leaving any garbage on the trails and campsites. We don't swim in the lakes, and we help and teach local communities to preserve their environment.

Every visitor needs to cooperate to clean the trails, we do this by separating the garbage we produce. At every campsite you will have a red rubbish bag, green bags and black bag: red bag is for inorganic waste such us plastic, the green bag is organic waste, and black bag is for any sharp or special waste such us batteries.

We will provide you every day boiled water fro the hike, warm water to wash, organic soap, that way you will avoid polluting lakes or stream directly.

In every campsite you will treat yourself with a nice hot shower. We use solar energy to heat the water and only 10 litters so this way you can save water.

People

To avoid negative Impact in our local communities along the Salkantay Trek we have a zero tolerance policy against child exploitation and sexual exploitation. All are staff is well paid, and have insurance.

We also we encourage our guests not to take candy or food related gifts to local children, instead it is better to donate a book, a pen, or something that will be useful. We visit communities like Soraypampa, Huayracpunku, Chawllay, Collpapampa where we will have direct contact with local children, this is good for them since they can interact with different cultures.

On day 3 of the hike we will visit a local coffee farm where local people provide a nice experience while we participate in the coffee making process and at the you can buy some fresh organic coffee from them.

We work with the community of Lucmabamba located in the heart of the cloud forest where and approximately of 30 families they offers coffee tours, every time we arrive we will go to a different place so we can benefit everybody and offer the same opportunity to develop.

he Salkantay trek is very beautiful not only because of the amazing views of mountains and lakes, is also amazing because we visit Local people. We highly encourage to follow the guidelines and our Travelers Code of Conduct
