Responsible tourism: Swim with Humpback Whales in Mozambique

As a key part of this trip is the opportunity to swim with humpback whales, we ensure we only work with local suppliers who strictly adhere to the Whale-watching Guidelines in each of our tour locations – that cause little or no negative impact on the various species of whales in the area.

My 2 whale-guides have worked with me since 2002 and 2010 consecutively. They are both certified in Tonga and work in Tahiti and Mozambique also. Mozambique and Tahiti do not require certification of guides, but I do for all my tours.

Our clients are informed on the need to adhere strictly to our waste disposal policies during their time with us. This is to insure that they do nothing to disturb or change the balance in the marine eco-system.

We fill our guests personal stainless steel and glass water bottles with filtered rainwater, sourced locally, each day.

We decline single-use plastic bags - we shop with fabric shopping bags, Refuse plastic straws in drinks, plastic wrap, tin-foil in take-out food and educate local about the affect of plastic in the environment.

We encourage locals to protect and preserve their culture and the environment as to continually attract tourism.

We do not print information brochures, all our information is on our website where information can be downloaded to their phones. All very small amount of paper accumulated in our offices is recycled and we refrain from accepting plastic packaging, plastic bags or wrapping whenever possible.

As a strict policy, we believe in training and retraining of staff and volunteers alike to ensure that they are acquainted with contemporary issues involved in providing safe, informative, educative, life changing and sustainable tourism.

We encourage our guests to interact with our boat crew, the local families & staff at resorts and on any village visits or events where this is possible.
We only works with suppliers who employ local Mozambicans, educate and train them to the highest standard.

We recommend that our guests only buy crafts and souvenirs from the makers at the local market.

2019 season: Request that our guests donate to the ‘Tofo Aid for Cyclone Idai’ organisation in place of tipping for services in Mozambique (as Tipping is not part of their culture) to assist the thousand of people in the north of Mozambique recently devastated by Cyclone Idai. This organisation is filling a truck with food and supplies and driving 800 kms to distribute directly to the people in ned.
