Accessible tourism overview:
As a small group tour specialist we have carried thousands of New Zealand travelers who have limited mobility, many who have decided our style of touring is right for them and tour with us many times over. We are now able to offer this same experience to our international travelers.
We offer door to door service. Wherever possible accomodation with lifts is chosen or ground floor accommodation is utiilised. We also book rooms designed specifically for limited mobility where available (e.g. with handrails, level flooring throughout etc.). There is no need for the traveler to handle their own luggage as this is taken care of by your friendly Kiwi guide and porterage assistance at the hotels.
Deaf or limited hearing:
All of our tour commentaries that the Kiwi guide utilises throughout the tour are available to be read online. Tours should be suitable for people with hearing limitations, but being accompanied by a hearing friend would be advised.
'Free from' food:
All dietary requirements are catered for. We have excellent communication with our meal providers and are used to requesting dietary requirements.
We have had many LGBT travelers. New Zealand is a progressive country and we provide the same travel experience for all our travelers.
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
PlanetWe are committed to operating environmentally sustainable tours. By nature small group touring using one vehicle to transport multiple clients is more environmentally friendly than usual modes of travel including rental car or campervan. We have monitoring systems in place to ensure our vehicles are serviced and driven in line with the manufacturer’s guidelines making the running of the fleet as efficient as possible.
We are a Qualmark Approved Visitor Service which means we have been independently reviewed and deemed to operate in an ethical, professional and environmentally sustainable way. Wherever possible we select suppliers that are also Qualmark approved and therefore deemed to operate in an ethical, professional and environmentally sustainable way.
We pay an annual licence and have official accreditation to operate on Department of Conservation land which demonstrates our commitment to the environment and sustainability. Payment of the license fee funds the protection of New Zealand’s national parks.
Office: We work from several home offices saving on travel time and fossil fuel consumption. All printer cartridges and paper is recycled. Both home offices water supply is supplied by rain water.
PeopleThis tour examines the natural wonders of the southern most point of the south island and over to Stewart Island. Invercargill has fascinating transport museums and Stewart Island and Ulva Island bird sanctuary are a nature lover's playground. You see natures wonders on the Catlins Coast and discover the Scottish heritage of Dunedin and its mainland albatross colony. Ride the Taieri Gorge train across the unique Wingatui Viaduct to Pukerangi.
As well as taking in the local nature, we support a variety of Heritage houses & museums throughout our tours. On this tour we visit The Croydon Heritage Trust factory and flight museum, Bill Richard’s Transport World and Classic Motorcycles and Burt Munro’s Indian Scout is on display at E. Hayes & Son, a classic old style hardware store in the center of Invercargill. In Dunedin we take a guided tour of historic Olveston House built in 1904 for a Dunedin merchant and visit the Discovery World Tropical Forest at the Otago Museum. We come face to face with hundreds of beautiful exotic butterflies and a range of tropical plants, birds, fish, turtles and a gecko.
We also where possible visit local craftsmen, markets and restaurants further helping to support the local community. On this tour we visit Niagara Cafe and have fun winding "rustic automata" at the Lost Gypsy Gallery in Papatowai. We dine by the sea at the Point Café and Bar at Kaka Point.
