Our company has The Certifcation for Sustainability and Corporate Responsibility in Tourism. The Certification is given by the TourCert certifcation council.
We respect the nature and emphasize services leaving the minimum ecological footprint in the nature. We respect the local people and their culture.
1. Wildlife
In Finland we have a lot of animals and plants that are adapted to Finnish nature. We organize our transportation, skiing, eating and bathing in a way that doesn't effect wildlife. Animals life free in the areas where we ski and we don't harm them.
2. Waste
All the waste is carried away from the nature. We recycle our waste and foodwaste (potato barks) are given to farm animals. Finland is one of the best countries in the world to recycle waste.
3. Water
In Finland we have one of the cleanest fresh water in the world. We use water reasonable, for example dish washing plates in sink, not with running water. Our guests are welcome to get to know our water-honoring principals, if they want to.
4. Energy
All of the Guesthouses heat buildings with wood. With other energy sources we use electricity. We use electricity reasonable and we welcome our guests to get to know our principals.
5. Buildings
All of the Guesthouses are mostly made of Finnish wood. Guesthouse Pihlajapuu is an old school, so building is recycled to serve travelers instead of becoming waste material. Guesthouse Laitala has restored over 100 years old house, House of Halmejärvi. In every house we have honored the principals of Finnish traditional building.
6. Transportation
We recommend, that our guests use trains and other public transportation, when they come visit us. From guesthouse to guesthouse we hike, ski or bike, so the transportation is pollute-free.
7. Suppliers
The food suppliers are local producers, that we know very well. Mostly we make our food ourselves and if we order food, it is produced in Finland. Our food is mostly organic.

People

-Friends and neighbours
Our Guesthouses co-operate very strongly: groups visit all the houses, eat in every guesthouse and get to know every manager and staff. We also recommend other companies and take people to town to get to know the local life.
-A fair deal
Everyone in staff has a wage that is defined in Finnish Law and work regulations. People that are working are locals and know the area by heart. During the skiing season we hire local ski-guides (2-3 people), two people to maintain food supply and cleaning and 1-3 other local workers for marketing, guiding and managing tours.
-Local crafts and culture
Karelian culture is the crown jewel we want to keep alive. That's why we offer karelian food, which is made in Guesthouses and offer Finnish sauna experience to all of our guests. In every guesthouse we sell local crafts and artisan work.
-Traveling with respect
Our guesthouses have great relationships with neighbors: we help each other, maintain the roads and fields together and tell each other how things are. Tourists are warmly welcome here.
