As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
PlanetWater & Waste: Our commitment to the environment is supported through our recycle policy. We offer all our riders a permanent cycling bottle to use whilst on the ride. In order to reduce plastic consumption, we make every effort to purchase 50L drums as a source to fill individual water bottles. This has a significant impact on the amount of waste we produce. We also make every effort to ensure that the 50L drum is put to local recycling once empty.
Energy and Transport: Being a cycle based operation, we are very conscious of our carbon footprint and fiercely support the value of cycle based travel. Not only does this reduce the need for petrol based vehicles, it also gives riders the opportunity to discover, explore and appreciate the landscape, remote communities and offers experiences not available when traveling by bus or car.
Reduce, re-use and recycle: we're committed to reducing our waste by our drinking water program (outlined above), 'dining in' at local restaurants to remove the need for disposable items, choosing hotels that avoid single use items such as mini shampoos, soaps and straws. The tour is fully supported with a van joining us the whole way, giving us the opportunity to stockpile items until we can recycle them. We also work with local suppliers that have a strong commitment to the local environment
PeopleOur goal is to promote understanding between cultures during this experience and aim to provide family run accommodation where possible. This is not purely for the benefit of the traveler, but very much a benefit for the local community. The curiosity and interest from locals is incredible, especially in the smaller, more remote towns where tourists rarely venture, and almost never by bicycle.
Our logistics team (guides, mechanics and drivers) are all local to the region, having many years experience in cycling adventures throughout Medellin to Cali in Colombia. This first hand knowledge ensures we stay away from the over crowded tourist attractions and visit more unique, local experiences. This ensures we spread the tourism dollar to more locally owned operations. It also means that we play our part in not deteriorating local and natural attractions due to over visiting. All of our staff are paid a fair wage and are employed in good working conditions. We actively encourage and promote growth through training.
Campaign for Change: To truly understand the country and culture, we first must be guided by local experts. We’ll connect with former gang members now working towards peace and urban renewal via local organizations. Get first hand insight to the problems of yesterday, the challenges that still stand and what the solutions for tomorrow look like.
Charity and Engagement: As a group tour, we will have the opportunity to pool together a collection of money and assist a campaign or project we learn about along the way that resonates with us. This will be carried out through local experts and any and all money donated will be followed up with by future tours. We have two dedicated community partners in Colombia, one in Medellin that we learn from, and one in Cali. These community partners work towards creating a safer community and reform from ex gang members.
