Responsible tourism

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your vacation will help support conservation and local people.

Environment
Each safari provides a real wildlife viewing and conservation experience. By opting for a safari with us safari guests are already helping to contribute towards our conservation work, especially with big cats.

We believe that everyone is able to help make a difference towards conserving our environment. When on safari or in the bush, we operate a policy of ‘bring out what you take in’ i.e. we leave no litter or man made products behind.

Boats drive at prescribed speeds to help protect the river banks. Guided foot safaris will access game trails which cannot be reached by vehicle. When on foot, we stay on the trail as deviating can cause erosion and other environmentally harmful impacts.

This safari is helping to support efforts to expand the national park (Parque Nacional do Pantanal Matogrossense) which occupies 1,350 sq km in the southwest of the region, but most of the Pantanal is privately owned. Cooperation between ecotourism and the landowners in the region (mostly cattle ranchers) has contributed to the sustainable conservation of the environment.
Community

The Impacts of this Trip

This safari helps to support a scheme that provides local ranchers with an income that encourages their coexistence with wildlife, it covers the shortfall created by the seasonal flooding of the area, which would otherwise be covered by more intensive (and hence more destructive) ranching efforts. The national park and three smaller private nature reserves nearby were given Unesco World Heritage listing in 2000.

While on safari we recommend that visitors buy locally produced goods and support local artisans. In this way, visitors are able to help sustain the local community, contribute towards conservation and enrich their own lives. During each safari there will be opportunities to purchase goods from local people in keeping with the ideals of fair trade. Our guides will advise on a ‘fair price’ if requested, however it is worth noting that a relatively small sum can make a huge difference to peoples lives and guests are asked to consider this when bargaining.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Take a good thick fleece for wearing on the truck and the boat. Also I would recommend either a buff or scarf that can be tied around face. Speeding boats
collect a lot of insects. The weather is very changeable and the wind chill uncomfortable. And plenty of strong insect repellant. The flies bite! Don't expect
gourmet food or luxurious accommodation. Food and lodge facilities are adequate but very basic.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes to all three

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

Seeing beautiful cats, Jaguar and Ocelot as well as a plentitude of other animals and birds

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

You will be busy most of the time , on boats or open vehicles, actively
looking for wildlife. Which is obviously a good thing! Accommodation is chosen for proximity to wildlife. Don't always expect TVs and hairdryers expect an array of amazing wildlife sharing your garden, the input of knowledgeable experts and guides , good plentiful food and friendly lodging staff. Bring plenty of bug spray and some good binoculars. A wonderful experience.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes, the safaris this company offer exist to support its conservation work. Accommodation was at locally run lodges and supported research.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
