1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
Great to find another country for fabulous accessible walking in beautiful surroundings. Really enjoyed using local transport and the ease of using your detailed itineraries and pre booked tickets which took the stress out of everything.
2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Just go. Thoroughly enjoyable lakes and mountains vacation. Perhaps tell clients a day trip to nearby castle on bus 29 from bratislava or one hour by bus to vienna are other options. And give idea of approx costs for food, drink ( as a free tour guide we did) .
3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Great to use buses, trains, and enjoyed Tatras smaller communities where we ate out ( at very low cost) often.
4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
Really enjoyed it.
Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
Planet
Self-guided adventures are small groups by their very nature (it’ll only be you and a few others at most). This is better for the environment and means you get to see more because you can get off-the-beaten track. We use public transport where we can – on this trip you will use trams, cable cars, trains and small buses. This minimises the impact on the environment and saves travelers money. This money can then be spent in other local places, such as a traditional restaurant, thus benefitting the local economy even more.
Our activity guides are fully versed in the principles of traveling responsibly in order not to do any damage to the local environment. During the trip, we will visit the Tatra National Park (TANAP). Their undertaking is to protect the park’s nature, flora and fauna, and by being here, we are helping in this mission. We will make sure we adhere to the rules of the park, walk only on trails, and leave wildlife and plants undisturbed.
People
Our company ethos is to organise tours for small groups and individuals so people can experience adventure responsibly. As a local, family-run business, we have built-up fantastic relationships with communities throughout Slovakia, and can provide the opportunity to connect with, and experience, local customs, culture and way of life first-hand.During this tour, we will only use local services and, throughout the trip, we will stay in locally-owned accommodation, which supports small Slovakian businesses. We also recommend eating in local restaurants, so you can sample delicious local cuisine – we will make recommendations in your self-guided booklet so you know the best ones to choose.
There’s the opportunity to visit the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Spissky Castle and Levoca, which contributes to their preservation and provides local people with an income through tourism. On this vacation, we’ve also included a trek to the oldest mountain hut in the Tatra Mountains, Rainerova, thus helping to preserve its heritage for future generations.
