Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
Planet
Although Patagonia is a very large place and we will have to travel by common means of transport on some occasions, we are working to limit unnecessary journeys. Most of the activities on our itinerary are man powered and designed to enjoy the beauty of the outdoors in Patagonia without putting a major impact on the environment.Additionally, as a matter of course, during the summer with our kayaking company, we carry out a number of campaigns for plastic clean ups from the lakes and shores. On all our treks and other ventures into nature, we collect and take with us any objects or rubbish that is not part of the natural landscape. We will also coach our guests, when in the wild, on what behaviours are expected around natural water sources to maintain their integrity and cleanliness.
We also ask that our guests carry refillable water bottles to minimise waste and single plastic use.
For our picnics and prepared meals, we use local produce packaged in a sensible manner so we can dispose of rubbish on our return to base. and always work with the leave no trace principles so visitors can enjoy as a clean environment as possible.
People
This trip has a strong focus on opening the real Patagonia to our guests. By this we mean we will mix, support and engage with local people and communities. We will stay in small family hotels, visit an indigenous community and the local museum to learn about their history, customs and how the managed life in Patagonia. With this visit and interaction with the community, we provide not only financial support but the opportunity to interact and educate about the original peoples of the Americas. We will also employ qualified and licensed guides for specific activities which provides financial support to a number of small business.
We know the best local places to eat, the fresh produce to buy for our trekking and tour days and we will be happy to recommend small family businesses for you to meet the locals and make any purchases you wish. Local communities produce beautiful handy crafts that mostly support women and families.
