Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

This trip is designed for small groups and families, no more then 10 participants allowed to guarantee minimum impact on the fragile ecosystems and environments we visit.

During this trip, we will travel through remote areas in the Atlas mountains and Sahara desert, across arid and wild environments. In the Atlas, we will travel at the heart of the Mgoun Geopark, located some 100 km from Marrakech in the middle of the chain of the central High Atlas. The M'Goun UNESCO Global Geopark meets two major criteria; is rich and varied natural, geological, cultural and architectural legacy and an appropriate management structure with a socio-economic development strategy based on geo-tourism and sustainable tourism.

We know it sounds fun to stray off the path and discover unseen places but this can have dire consequences on the fragile environments and ecosystems of the Atlas Mountains and Sahara deserts. Your footsteps will be followed by others and thousands of steps off the trail can end up significantly impacting the natural processes of weather and erosion. This tour is accompanied by a local guide who advises the travelers to stay on the trail; look, don’t touch, take only photographs, and leave only footprints.

During the trip, you will stay in local lodges, which generally offer a novel travel experience, a leisurely pace while participating in the preservation of the heritage of the Berber people. Our partner Dar Touda Ecolodge in the happy valley of Ait Bougmez, provides comfortable rooms and common areas that reflect the designs and heritage of the local culture, common spaces invite guests to gather around and share travel tales while local staff impart their culture through music, food and dance. The architecture and construction of the lodge highlight the heritage of one of the most preserved valleys of the high Atlas, and value local know-how. The house has been built according to ancestral construction techniques: interior wall adobe, stone exterior wall, plaster, tadelakt and green roof.. The Ecolodge uses environmentally-friendly energy such as solar panels to provide hot water to all en-suite bathrooms and the Hammam.

Food is purchased from local farmers

To reduce our dependence on the car, we offer longer stays in some locations where many activities can be arranged including walking, mountain biking, sand boarding, cooking class with the local inhabitants etc. This way we reduce the use of fuel, and create meaningful and enriching connections with the local population.

Your base during the desert adventure will be in an eco-friendly, solar powered tented camp in the heart of the desert of Erg Chegaga.

We advise our customers that a reusable water bottle is an essential addition to their packing list! Not only does it save their budget, but also helps save this planet from single-use and unnecessary plastic waste.

During the trip, we invite our guests to visit local projects we have realised together with our social partner TAWAYA NGO which is one of the leading organisations for social and environmental initiatives in the Atlas mountains. These social projects include the village school, the local women goats cooperative, the youth training center, and the kindergarten.

We believe that the local populations should be involved in how tourism is conducted in their areas. Our aim is to combine sustainable tourism with conservation and community development while offering our guests the chance to experience an untouched side of Morocco.

A simple solution to this is hiring local guides and utilising family-owned riads, lodges, guesthouses, as well as offering our travelers the possibility to buy local handicrafts that directly benefit the families selling them.

The Berbers living in the areas we cross throughout this trip are often still living their ancestral customs, and we do believe in the benefit of bringing our guests into contact with such communities, as long as relationships are being nurtured with mutual respect.

We ensure that our local guides, cooks, and drivers are fairly paid, our aim is to generate greater economic benefits for local people and empower the well-being of host communities.

During the tour, we favour local products over imported items buy encouraging our guests to buy products and food from local merchants and eat in local restaurants.
