Responsible tourism

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your vacation will help support conservation and local people.

We believe that tourism - when controlled, operated and managed responsibly - plays an essential role in the preservation of endangered wildlife. We only offer wildlife camps and experiences when we’re entirely satisfied with their management and operational procedures, and we stringently monitor them.
This India itinerary visits three of Madhya Pradesh’s national parks. We work with experienced rangers within these parks who are conscious of the need to protect the animals and the habitat in which they live. By working with reputable rangers we ensure you see the wildlife you want in a way which protects the land. Fees paid for park entry go toward the smooth running of the park.

This India itinerary also includes a visit to the Wildlife SOS Bear Sanctuary, on the outskirts of Agra. This inspiring project is home to over 200 Indian sloth bears, rescued from tragic situations such as being forced to dance for tourists, or being sold for traditional Chinese medicine. With Wildlife SOS, the bears are harboured in park-like grounds similar to their natural habitat, and the NGO works hard to protect and conserve Indian wildlife.

India boasts a number of eco-resorts, one of which is included in ‘Walk On The Wild Side’. The Sarai at Toria is an eco-lodge run by Joanna, a wildlife photographer & conservationist, and Raghu, a biologist known for his pioneering tiger research. Every effort has been made to ensure the property is as environmentally and culturally responsible as possible.

This India itinerary uses a number of travel options within the country. We encourage travel by train through India where possible, which, as well as being an immersive, local experience, reduces transport emissions. Instead of exploring a city in a private vehicle we encourage walking tours and exploration by bicycle.

The Impacts of this Trip

One of our core values is to collaborate with local, responsible companies and partners who share our focus, beliefs and passions. In India we work with a locally owned travel partner who employs only local guides and drivers. By using local guides and naturalists in each destination (rather than bringing in guides from other regions) we are helping to create job opportunities amongst the local community. It also that, as much as possible, the income the guests bring to the country goes directly back into the community.

Our vacations are designed to enable our clients to immerse themselves in local places and experiences. One particular experience included in this India itinerary is a visit to a prominent Sikh temple in Delhi, where you will get the opportunity to lend a hand with the cooking, alongside volunteers in the community kitchen.

We have developed a system that allows clients to donate any unused currency to local charities that are vetted and selected by our partners.
