As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
Planet
Walking vacations respect the environment with a low carbon footprint, we strive to reduce our carbon footprint and atmospheric contanimation by reducing transfers to a minimum, using fuel efficient vehicles and recycling all plastic, glass, paper and cooking oil.Water is a scarce resource and so to reduce water consumption so we have a shower head installed as well as double plunger toilet cisterns to reduce consumption.
Fire is a serious problem for Mediterranean ecosystems so we observe all regulations on fire safety and request or guests not to light fires anywhere in the countryside.
People
By staying in small rural communites you are directly supporting the community, it is very difficult to earn a living in these mountain villages and rural depopulation is a serious problem that leads to the abandonment of farm land and increasing forest fires. We use local shops and services to help maintain local businesses and your presence will also contribute to sustain the rural economy and local business.
Should you wish to buy souvenirs we suggest you buy something from the village such as olive oil, almonds or locally produced spicy sausages. This provides direct benefits to the community and to the environment by supporting those that care for the land.
