Chile Solar Eclipse 2020 tour

Carbon reduction

Your vacation will help support local people and conservation. We must also reduce CO2. Learn about the CO2 emissions of this vacation and how to reduce them.

Environment

Though a minimal amount of time is spent within nature over the course of this tour, we have still worked hard to ensure it is as environmentally-friendly as possible in any area possible.

One significant aspect of this trip that has been designed to be as eco-friendly as possible is transport. This trip primarily features journeys by shared vehicle, with much of the day-to-day explorations and tours of sites being done on foot. Though this trip does contain a number of internal flights, reaching the distant locations visited on this trip would be impossible without them. We strongly believe the benefits of our responsible tourism in these locations outweigh the negative environmental impact of the flights. Similarly, this trip features overnight stays in primarily small hotels. The environmental benefits of smaller accommodations over large hotels are numerous, and this is a factor we consider across all tours in all destinations whenever possible.

This trip also supports the National Flamingo Reserve in San Pedro de Atacama. Though the visit is brief, it is still a vital source of support for the reserve, and one which allows them to continue their vital conservation of flora, fauna and natural landscapes alike.

To you, our travelers, we ask you to be vigilant about disposing of your waste and recycle where possible. During your trip you will be asked if you have any waste to dispose of when it is a suitable time in the itinerary. This ensures we make it as easy as possible for our travelers to be eco-friendly whilst traveling.

Similarly, we strongly advise all travelers to bring a reusable water bottle - this is an easy way to save plastic waste and is detailed in our ‘What to Bring’ trip notes for all trips to all destinations. We are proud to announce a partnership with WaterToGo, who provide reusable bottles which filter 99.9% of microbiological contaminants. You can receive 15% off with our unique discount code (contact us directly for details). Not only are these bottles better for the environment, but we will be donating any commission we receive to WaterAid – a charity we are proud to support in a number of ways.

Community

As regular travelers, one thing that never ceases to amaze and inspire us is the kindness and generosity of local people, often people who have very little to their name. We firmly believe that they are who make these places special and that they should benefit from our visit. Therefore, as first preference, we use local guides offered fair working conditions and pay, and locally-owned lodges, shops and eateries. We do our best to ensure that the benefits of our tours reach as widely as possible into the communities where they operate.

In addition to the numerous social benefits that all of our tours bring as a result of our responsible ethos, this trip features a number of fantastic opportunities for additional support and positive community impact. This includes visits to museums, churches, handicraft shops and markets, a vineyard and even a planetarium and an observatory. These features of the tour support the communities touched upon and Chile in a broader sense in a number of ways. Not only do the visits to the cultural locations support the continued preservation and exhibition of Chile’s rich history and culture, but many of these visits – such as the handicraft shops and vineyard – support local businesses and institutions at the heart of the local community and economy.

Given the unique nature of this trip, more time than is typical is spent in the company of tour guides, speakers and other local individuals of that nature. We are proud to support hard-working local people directly, and we are pleased this tour supports those in such a unique and often overlooked field.
