A visit to the Sámi Siida Museum is a fascinating insight into the indigenous people who have lived in the region for thousands of years. The entrance fee goes to supporting the identity and cultural self-esteem of the Sámi and help preserve the wonderful surrounding environment they call home.

To cut down on transport emissions, we have also included a guided nature walk for guests to explore the stunning autumnal landscape on foot.

During the walk, the local guide will also point out the seasonal food that you may find in the hotel restaurant. Your dining experiences will often include many local delicacies, so guests can experience traditional dishes whilst reducing their food miles.

Of course, the Aurora features heavily on the itinerary but it is not just simply a case of standing under the night sky. During a Northern Lights presentation with an expert local guide, the guests will learn all about the science behind the phenomenon as well as the local legends which have been passed down from generation to generation. The hunts themselves primarily take place around Lake Inari in specialised Aurora Camps which are stunning spots dotted along the lakeshore.

People

The Wilderness Hotel Inari is locally owned and sits just 5 minutes from the village of Inari – the center of Sámi culture in Finland. In order to support the local community as much as possible, we use local suppliers on all of our trips.

During each activity, guests are accompanied by local guides who have unparalleled knowledge of the area. We have conducted thorough research to show that autumn is a brilliant time to visit Finland in order to boost tourism during this off-peak season.

We have scientific evidence to back up the fantastic Aurora potential during this time of year and the included activities, such as the guided nature walk, celebrates the autumnal landscape before the deep snow arrives.
